Anyone from accountancy / finance field can shed some light on this?
Today I went to HR to find out about some policy matters, the HR was away, I saw a document somewhere in her desk with many names, they are familiar names, mine is also included in it.
Turned out it is showing me the current pay of everyone, and I am so utterly shocked to find out I am the lowest pay among them, at close to 7k, not even reaching 7k.
Most of them are 8k or above, a few are 9k.

I don't know what to feel about this after seeing this, it cannot be unseen.
I am one of the few people that's handling 2 countries (typical in SSC setting), the rest only handle 1 country, so I felt terrible putting in the efforts and being taken advantage of my low pay compared to peers.
My peers always complain to me they have low pay, judging they are slightly older than me, I assume they are 7k to 8k range, but starting from 8k? I feel like they are messing with me now.

I understand there is 1 person who is younger than me by 1 year, she left as audit senior in big 4, her pay became 8k after she joined here.
I was in big 4 audit for first 2 years then joined another Co as SSC accountant for 2 years, 3k+ jump to 5.5k.
Then jump to current SSC Co for 6.5k despite me requesting 7k, lowballed by 500.

I am very close to 30 y/o at this point, most colleagues are older than me by 1 or 2 years, so they are early 30s.
Tell me, am I being fooled all these 2 years I spent in this Co? (total work years 2 + 2 + 2 = 6)

The good news is, I got headhunted recently to join few months later as Commercial accountant who manages quite a number of juniors, pay risen from 6.9k to 10k.
But after today's incident, I am not sure if I am being fooled this time again or not.

Note 1: SSC has 13th month salary, my 10k job doesn't.
Note 2: My peers and I have ACCA qualification, the only difference is they have 2 - 3 years more audit experience compared to me, but about the same years of total work experience.
Note 3: SSC is shared service center, aimed at cutting cost by letting one person to handle more than 1 country's account, imagine paying the SSC person MYR by terminating the accountant at Australia or any country with stronger currency than MYR, the cost saving is real.

1. If your understanding SSC aimed at cutting cost alone by letting one person to handle more than 1 countries, my humble opinion you need to learn more
2. You’re not happy with salary - check with HR or your manager
3. Each role will have a salary range - you agreed on that salary in the 1st place, your salary is based on your task and your experiences
4. No amount is enough - ppl will always complaint no matter how much they get, what are you doing to manage this is far more important

Regarding your comment on ssc understanding, I'm thinking that's the big summary of it, is my understanding of it misleading? It'll be nice if you would add what am i missing on the understanding, I'm already doubting myself making this thread, this remark of yours just made it worse, it'll be kind of you to dispel my doubt at least on what is ssc to you.

Can't really argue about that i accepted the salary in the first place.

I always knew there is a gap, but not this big, anyway i did voiced my concern to my manager and he tried give me a list of things to do to achieve my goal, so that he can proposed the desired amount. I did what he said and now he's telling me the higher up is not approving the extra increment and give me the regular increment instead. I was extremely lucky to land that 10k job and not wait for this bad news. I knew somehow this manager can't be trusted.

I think you need to understand why SSC able to perform multiple countries with a single resource, that’s why there’s more and more GBS/SSC organisation growing here in MY. We are top 3 destination for GBS. We are talking about US$5billion and expecting to grow to US$7 billion in 2025 industry in MY and we are definitely not the cheapest in APAC. If SSC aim at cutting cost alone might as well do that in India/indonesia

You did the right thing by asking and leave with better offer and based on my experience off cycle salary adjustment is not easy unless you’re really top performer. Even then, it’s not easy with all the tight budget these days.
