Guys want to ask. Those who trade in, and arrange a pickup, how will they check the phone to determine the final price?

Got an email to schedule the trade in, rider pickup, but I dont know how will they check. Because I dont want to trade in if they lowball their offer.

My experience so far with the collection is not good.

1. Timing, they didn't show up at designated time and called to reschedule after the appointment time (last enough also still can close one eye).
2. Price, the last guy came on the motorbike and offered me RM5 for my Galaxy Watch 4 (yes the screen was defective) but still don't think it would have been that plus he wanted the charger cable too.
Ended up telling him no deal and cancel, but like others have mentioned the main reason is for the trade in discount which already applied.

I wanted to report it to Samsung too, but they don't bother about this trade in part of the deal, between you and CompAsia.

My only thoughts is that the lower they buy from you, better margins for them when they sell 2nd hand I suppose. What about if you drop off at their outlets, is the experience better...just wondering.

So for context, my GW4 died out of the blue ...orange screen. So i decided to get rid of it as fixing it was close to 3/4 of a new device. Put it up for trade in, I still kept the box and everything. So if it's for a 2 year old watch, with a broken screen i was okay with RM200 + whatever the estimated amount that compasia would give. But when the dude arrived, straight away he said only RM5 and then he got the cheek to ask me where's the charger. Showed him the email that no where mentioned in the T&C that anything apart from the device needs to be given.

I know people who have bought devices from CompAsia and seem okay, but this experience definitely raised some red flags for me. I will only do trade it, if that device is destined for the bin.

Hi sifu's,

When we opt for trade in to get the 300 rebate, what happens if I didn't send back the phone ah?

Can I abuse the 300 but not sending in the phone? Haja

Technically yes, because you already got the rebate upfront and device before CompAsia arrange for the collection. If you want to fulfill your end of the deal, better to go in-person or something.
Although word of caution, the last time i tried the trade in for the Galaxy Watch (my trade in unit had faulty screen), the guy who came only offered RM5 and wanted my charging cable too. I told the guy who came to do the collection that no deal, if they not happy ask superior to reach out to nego again. Nothing happened, they just cancel the trade in. That's what happened to me.

Personally, this part of the process is just not transparent.
If I were to take a guess, CompAsia will likely refurbish your old unit and resell (since they sell used devices). The lower they have to pay you, the higher margin for them.
The other possibility, is the guy who come to collect wants to pocket the difference, so for example I saw on the Samsung checkout RM85 for working, RM25 for spoiled. So if I just took it at RM5, he will then go submit for RM25 or whatever the amount and get the difference. Unlikely CompAsia will give the money upfront, because people can just take and disappear.

This is just guess work, anyone if more familiar with the process do update if i'm mistaken 🙏🏼
