native app lock coming to android ecosystem?
https://www.androidauthority.com/android-17...-rumor-3630983/ so the samsung propaganda that secure folder is all you need, we can probably ignore that feature we don't use as an actual NATIVE app lock will be making it's way to android. you got screenlocks, so why would you need an app lock? maybe you're temporarily sharing your phone (e.g. a young relative to watch their youtube kids) and don't want people accessing just any app on your phone. then you got an app lock requiring e.g. finger print or pin to unlock it. that's what an app lock is for. how is secure folder in samsung one ui different? Basically, to use secure folder, you create DUPLICATES of the app. You can unhide the app from your phone, and put them all under a secure folder which is locked. Main issue here, you are creating DUPLICATES. Weird thing, they already had an app lock, but at some point they removed it for some reason. anyway the news is a native app lock is making it's way to android, so hopefully that solves the remaining issue for android. Fyi, some chinese branded android smartphones already had their own app locks. But problem is, those china branded phones are filled with too much bloatware. I know cause i tried a few and though they sold cheaper for nicer hardware for the price compared to other brands, the software was awful due to the bloatware. You can also get third party app locks in googleplay, but whether they are trust worthy apps, or effective is another question. So with a native app lock, that is 1 less thing to worry about. PS: some apps already have their own app lock e.g. whatsapps. but not ALL apps have an app lock. Hence why a general native app lock is still a must, especially if you are someone who casually share their smartphones, but want some privacy as well. seems notifications will also be protected for privacy as well for these apps QUOTE TL;DR Android 17 is slowly approaching release with new privacy features App Lock would be a long-awaited native solution, eliminating need for third-party apps Currently, users rely on third-party apps or Android's Private Space (which serves a different purpose) The feature masks notification content to protect privacy from prying eyes, friends, colleagues, or family members who might temporarily use your phone Code strings discovered: app_locked_new_notification and app_locked_notification_message Messaging apps would show "New message" while other apps would show "New notification" If following other OEM implementations, app name and icon will likely remain visible to help identify which app received the notification This is based on APK teardown, so features may change or not make it to public release This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Jan 26 2026, 08:23 AM |

I just moved from Xiaomi to Samsung environment. While I can wake up the screen by double tapping the screen, I noticed it is not possible to turn it off by double tapping the home button (Xiaomi can do this). Or am I missing anything? I prefer not to use the physical power button.

It's by tapping anywhere on the screen I can turn off by double tapping on an empty space on the screen. But when you have an app opened (Whatsapp for example) you need to go to the homepage and double-tap on the empty screen. That is very troublesome. How does yours work? |
