QUOTE(sunami @ Jan 6 2024, 01:23 AM) But outside of the hive does not have honey. Need to cut it open. Furthermore, full of bees ants don't go purposely attack something much bigger. And it's not true ants don't attack bee hives. Ants will still try got go into the inner layer since the hives aren't 100% without holes. Got small small gap.In short, ants do go bee hives for honey. Key phrase: PURE HONEY.
Many years ago I tested using drops of pure honey from honeycombs of wild stinging bees which I harvested with my own hands in Kinabatangan and Ranau, Sabah. Black ants didn't eat it. They'd pause to inspect it, and then move on. I believe they're not stupid and knew that they'd get stuck to the stuff and die. But tiny red ants went kamikaze and paid the ultimate price. Honey does absorb water vapor from the air. Over time the drops of honey did become diluted and runny. The ants then gathered around the honey and feasted on the parts of the drops which were runnier. Currently there are 2 small colonies of stingless bees locally known as kelulut on my property. I've left them alone so far, but didn't notice any ants in the immediate area. |

QUOTE(Azran1979 @ Jan 6 2024, 12:08 AM) You can find pure honey at local farmers' markets, specialty grocery stores, or directly from beekeepers. Look for reputable brands that prioritize quality. As for the ant thing, it's not a foolproof rule, but ants are generally less attracted to pure honey because it lacks the added sugars and moisture that can attract them. However, it's always a good idea to store honey properly to avoid any unwanted visitors. |

I still have half kilo of pure honey that was harvested 12 years ago, personally at the harvested site. Still in perfect condition, in liquid form, no crystalisation, smells same as day one.

QUOTE(Azran1979 @ Jan 6 2024, 02:47 PM) Madu asli - to show that it's original with nothing added. Source of honey is unknown.Madu Tualang - the bee make their home on Tualang tree. Very tall tree and difficult to get. Madu kelulut - honey from kelulut. Not bee. Kelulut is very small flying insect that gather nectar like bee. The taste is a bit different. It's an acquired taste. Not many people love it. Normally honey name is assicuated with plalce / where the nectar come from. For eample NZ Manuka Honey - the nectar is from Manuka flower andd the bee exclusively gather the nectar from this tree and Manuka tree native to New Zealand. Just to be on the safe side, do be careful of the risk of botulism in honey. That’s why never give honey to babies

QUOTE(vhs1 @ Jan 6 2024, 12:42 PM) Those are sugar loaded ones. Real honey still attracts ants. And many people happily buy those so called kampung honey filled up in bottles without proper processing is taking a risk of killing them along the way. |

it is still sugar. beware
Honey contains mostly sugar, as well as a mix of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, iron, zinc and antioxidants. In addition to its use as a natural sweetener, honey is used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial agent. People commonly use honey orally to treat coughs and topically to treat burns and promote wound healing. https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplement...ey/art-20363819 |

I was on the tour visit to a Bee Farm last recently. Surprisingly, the one doing the tour talk was making this statement. The same statement triggered my interest as the Tualang honey I purchased was attracting the ants.
I bought around 3kg the honey from this farm, surprisingly the honey purchased from this farm really didn't attract any ants event when there was some honey residual at the bottle's lid. The same observation & the reading online gave some mixed points. Perhaps the pure honey that's don't attracted ants only valid for certain species of honey bees. |

real honey will attract ants. That's why man made beehouse they have a container to pour in diesel or grease, so the ants cannot climb up.
