some of the photos I took using my 400D and 17-85IS lens, still learning how to take proper shots. Majority of my photos are of my figures collection which I didn't post here. These are the only photos that I have at the moment that are not pvc figures hehe. comments are most welcome smile.gif

a failed macro shot of a flower, but since its the only flower shot i have i just post here smile.gif

i personally think it would be better if u could get a lower angle while shooting the dog..

if possible, try read the DCM September 2007, there are tips and guides on how to shoot better pet's photos smile.gif

i am a newbie as well..

keep learning thumbup.gif

yeah i have that mag, very nice tips. I try to get as low without having to lie on the floor, but I guess sometimes you just have to inorder to get a good pic. yup definitely keep learning

thanks smile.gif i wonder if anyone have this problem, the shots i take if view in full resolution is not very sharp, it's still clear just that not very sharp, is this because I didn't focus properly or because of the lens

thanks, the smoke is actually hot water vapor, I place a mug of very hot water infront of the camera and took the shots, smile.gif

went to KLCC on Saturday with a few friend. We actually went to do some outdoor pvc figures shoot. Took some of these shots while at the park. Too bad the shots of the Twin Towers didn't come out nice, need to practice more on shooting architectures. c & c are most welcome smile.gif

eh neutral is good meh, I thought most will like more vibrant color smile.gif
anyway I just shot using standard picture style and in raw, white balance set to auto, and the rest is process in lightroom. It seems when import to lightroom, what ever picture style you set will be gone though

valho : a quick question, usually u went out shooting alone or with friends / forumers?
*
it depends, sometimes I go alone if I am familiar with the place like the KLCC shots, other I'll join outing organize by other people. Like the one below I join other photographers from Photo Malaysia forum. Not much of my friends are interested in photography unfortunately haha
btw there's be a outing this Sat at Zoo Negara, do join us if you can smile.gif

Gosh, the prime 100mm is even sharper than the L lens. The 55-250mm seems to be the worst among the three lens.
Btw, how close were u when shooting with the prime? As 100mm will not give you sufficient reach.

Did you crop for this shot? It's so detail. Composition wise I'd have preferred more room on the left.

well its a prime lens after all sure sharp sharp smile.gif. haha the 55-250 not bad also but different class from the other two lens I use though.
almost touching the fence, the eagle also quite near the fence. it's crop on the left of the image, coz all my photos are resize to 1600x1200 resolution and the original image size is wider, guess I should have crop the right instead of left. I was using manual focus on this one, burst a few shots, while the eagle was turning its head, this is one of my fav smile.gif

Yeah, a little more room on the left will be better. Since the BG is blur, you ca actually add as much space as you like via post process smile.gif

two lens were use, the ef-s 17-85 IS USM and ef 100mm f/2.8 macro, though I have replace the 17-85 IS with Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
ef-s 17-85 IS got it together as a kitlens for my 400D, normal price is around 2k i think
ef 100mm f/2.8 macro used version 1.3k, if it's the new USM version used should be around 1.6k. New one around 2.2k
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 RM1.3-1.4k

you have pretty good compostion...

What you need is just a prime to blur the background like 50mm or 85mm... And you can see lots of improvement just like that... biggrin.gif

Too bad my friend did not bring his legendary 50L for the indoor event... It might be able to capture some great shot where 85L is too loooong... cool2.gif

I really have to agree on these...

With both FF and crop factor, you can 'adjust' your effective focal lenght.

Example, shorten the prime with 5D when you are indoor... thumbup.gif

i'm not sure, but i think the cosplayer can do better at posing to get more feel from the character itself. Maybe the expression were abit off from how the comic gave me =P

thanks, the 50mm is sharpest from f/2.0 onwards, but for this figure shoot I had to use smaller aperture otherwise the DOF too thin smile.gif

for my figures shoot, the WB are set to custom since it's a control enviroment, picture style set to standard most of the time, sometimes it's set to portrait as well. Figures photos are all in jpeg, so more or less straight out of the camera with a little level adjustment.
for all other shoots I use AWB and set the picture style to either standard or portrait depending on what I shoot. For this I shoot all in RAW and tweak WB later.

valho..

your gamma like too high for those pics..

anyway.. i have an idea for your next set up for cloud strife if you wanna try again.

Use black background, but dun put the gongzai too close to the background. so that you wont notice the background in the pic.

Use 3 different spot lights.. DIY those LED... blue, purple, green.. then point them at Cloud @ different angles. Do some trial and error.. should give a nice nice... street feeling to Cloud. Coz Cloud always ride in a city full of fantasy lights de mah... biggrin.gif haha.. just my opinion.. biggrin.gif

my fault lo, i did the initial shot with the camera connected to my laptop, u know lah laptop LCD always looks brighter one, in the end when check on my desktop too dark so use photoshop to brighten.
weather too hot lately to shoot in my room, so I was lazy to do some trial shot first, probably gonna reshoot it again if I am free, nice idea though on the street light thing

it's actually sort of her special move, where she'll have very thin and almost invisible line around the battlefield

Woots! I like these, especially the setup used, shinny balls. However, one of the balls managed to catch a rather distracting reflection from the lamp above. I'm not sure but is this ok?

As for Doris's set, I feel that the first 2 poses were alright, but the flash on the 3rd one was rather harsh. Just my 2 cents. smile.gif

Thanks

yeah that's the problem when shooting shiny stuff, you tends to get reflections.

The flash was direct without diffuser so sometimes might be a bit harsh, first two shot I drag the shutter instead, and no flash was use, so it looks better smile.gif

Play around with a bit of strobist, only have 1 flash though and no softbox, so just bare flash with lowered power. The flash was place lower instead of above her, so the face is not that well lighted.

Hatsune Mikuo, taken during TAF yesterday

Taken at a photography area they have during the event, didn't use flash hence the heavier shadow

the teaser was meant to be some sort of close-up, I didn't want to do a full close-up of the headphone since the series is headphone girl, not just headphone

color is right out of camera, though I did set contrast and saturation to +1 in the camera setting.
usually I'll do a bit of unsharp mask after editing and resizing using photoshop cs3. unsharp mask setting varies between photos, so there's no one fix setting for it.
