I am building my own gaming rig and this topic is for sharing and record purposes as some of you might have zero knowledge on how to build a rig.

I am not professional so this is just for sharing, any comments and feedback are welcomed.

Basic quick start I have referred to this Taiwan youtuber: https://www.youtube.com/@sinyachannel (Mandarin)

Zero knowledge quick start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIF8g1-xLbo (Mandarin)

Pc Builder: https://www.youtube.com/@PCBuilderChannel (English)

Processor (CPU): I7-14700K @ MYR 1878.90
Motherboard: MSI PRO Z-790-A Max Wifi @ MYR1307
Power Supply Unit (PSU): Corsair RME RM850E @ MYR593
Cooling: AIO Cooler NZXT Kraken X Series RGB Model X73 @ MYR595
SSD: Kingston KC3000 1TB @ MYR374
RAM: Acer Predator Vesta II RGB DDR5 CL30 32G (16GB x 2) 6000mhz @ MYR589
Casing: Lian Li Lancool II Mesh RGB @ MYR385
GPU: Waiting launching of GTX 4080 Super series (can't wait so i bought Zotac GTX 4080 Trinity Black) @ MYR5335.97
Windows Home 11 @ MYR496.82

You need Processor, Motherboard, Power Supply Unit, Cooling system, SSD/HDD (storage), RAM, Casing and GPU for building a rig.

My CPU has arrived today

actually you can start building now and use it, as your CPU has integrated graphic.

I would just assemble everything and run it using the onboard Intel graphics

Pop in the RTX GPU when it's available later

Majority of the parts is only one way. Don't force it if it doesn't want to go in. Turn it and try again.

Freesync can run off HDMI if its with AMD GPU. For igpu I dont think there is any need for it as FPS likely wont get up so high.

Bro this is Max version so its a brand new release for 14th Gen Refresh. Sure it will be expensive from start. Plus this is -A version so its the best tier in Pro variant. Plus MSI has given Pro models a huge bump, this Z790 Pro now has VRM almost nearly as good as Toma & Edge variants.

Always double check the printing on the motherboard to ensure you plug into correct slots/points. Sometimes the manual can be printed wrongly. Experienced that with one EVGA mobo a number of years back.

Which is why I dont understand why need to use DP out to monitor HDMI. If want Gsync/Freesync via 4080S then use DP from GPU to monitor for guaranteed success. Gsync only works via DP and Freesync kinda works over HDMI only with AMD GPU. If TS monitor dont have DP port then out of luck baby.

Wait..i didnt say anything about DP to HDMI..

I said he need to buy a DP cable bcs most monitors only come with HDMI

He needs DP if he bought a freesync monitor cuz freesync only works with DP if connected to nvidia gpu.

Good point, but TS added his monitor model just now (Dell Alienware AW2723DF), so i think it includes both DP and HDMI cable as shown in spec page.

1TB SSD fills up very quickly, especially if you install newer games which take up a lot of space. Moreover, it is recommended to keep SSDs only 80~90% full.

I'd recommend getting another 1 or 2 TB SSD, it is also useful to have two drives for backing up important data, or doing fresh installs of OS.

Already close to filling up my 2TB. Bought 4TB and install.

Should be able to handle for a few years.. until SSD price drop..

NVME 4TB SSD are still freaking expensive if you need to add more storage, most affordable way is to get SATA 4TB SSD w/ DRAM ie Crucial MX500 or Sam 870EVO

Good build TS, I am going to build a new one by myself as well...now waiting for few parts like Lian Li O11 Vision and Super Flower PSU then I can start building.

My parts choices almost same as yours but differs a bit and I am going for 7900 XTX.

What's the biggest challenge during the assembly?

yes enough space lian li ii mesh is for ATX motherboard the only issue was the top panel could not fit my nxzt x73 fans it can fit 2 fans
so the pc shop install my aio cooler to the front and the original fans come with the casing install one at rear and 2 at the top
