can OS X even do this?

I mean I have two OSX computers that needs to share files with each other, but I dont want any other OSX computers on the same "windows domain" network to access their shared files.

I dont have mac os X server.

The OSX computers are sharing a domain with other windows PC under a windows server that uses appletalk.

I have tried putting the files in the public folder and starting file sharing service for OSX. But doing so will let any other user using OSX to access the public folder.

I dont want this.

I want to be able to share the file/folder between two or more users of OSX only, other OSX users should not be able to access their file/folders.

how to do this without OSX server?

I know OSX server can do this, but I dont have one, so too bad for me. It's simple for windows, since I have windows server with a list of network user accounts, I can simply add the "users" that I want to access the folder and exclude others that I dont want.

No offense, but I know this is a long shot, chances are, nobody here can help me due to certain "reasons" that I will not elaborate upon. But who knows right? smile.gif

Under System Preferences>Sharing>File Sharing , you can add individual users (i added "Friend1" as an example) and allow access to them, while blocking access to everyone else...

You can also do this for individual folder settings...

I want to do this on mac os x 10.3.x

I have an idea, but I need confirmation:

can I like create a new group and add the two users of OSX to that group and then set the privileges of the public folder so that only the users of that particular group can access the folder?

will this work for my purpose?

if so? ermm ...... how to create a new group in os X?

google found nothing, useless google. shakehead.gif
