bad, not cause of the extra 10%, but how they collect that 10%. if you purchase something and you pay the extra 10% when you pay, no issue.
when it introduce new procedure, like you purchased something and it didnt pay the tax, get stuck at custom, you need to go declare whats that item, need to make additional tax payment for the RM10 item, then personally go collect that item, then technically gov is making everybody life difficult for nothing.

No tax is gonna be good for consumers.
That been said, it’s long due as gomen practically didn’t earn anything from those low value goods before this.
Hope these extra revenues can make way to a proper use.
And yes, I’m an avid taobao, Shopee, Lazada buyer with foreign purchases amounting more than 30k to date.

Gomen won’t ever consider any GST figure under 4% as the revenues collected will be even less than current SST system. You don’t get more money while still pissing off the people, even Najib wont be that dumb to go this path. This post has been edited by msacras: Dec 16 2023, 04:43 PM

He's the mastermind behind the major issues now. By the way, you really sure if 1% GST, still will be lower than the current SST system? Like ordinary household, they may pay SST like once a month only.. when it comes to bills. Not everyday eat at eateries that charges SST.. however, they buy things everyday that may have GST. I think they'll end up paying more GST than SST.

Yes, the break even figure of GST vs current SST(10&6%) is somewhere around 3-4%, 1% definitely won’t cut it. With next year the SST figure increase by another 2%, I’ll say it’s safe to say 4% is the figure to beat. SST worked at manufacturers/suppliers level, so end consumer don’t directly see it unlike GST. This post has been edited by msacras: Dec 16 2023, 05:22 PM

The supposed purpose is to encourage people buying local products, instead of cheaper oversea products. Therefore must at least be more than 6. I guess 10% is going to make a difference in certain people's purchasing decision more than lets say 6-8%.

Gomen pokai since Najib times. Why do you think got so much saman discount, tax here, tax there, endless income tax audit.
Now they think tax 10℅ on your RM100 online purchase is peanuts for you M40. Besides, next GE is far far away. Rakyat mudah lupa
