I saw that video just now. I think the dealership is in cahoots with insurance company. The car after write off can be purchased again with salvage/ recuild title & resold again. These buggers would probably just replace the damaged battery cover only.
The guy who owned the car previously needs to pay 50% more insurance premium on his next new car.
The owner should have brought the case with Hyundai Canada/ Korea and not just the dealership/ insurance company as they are threatening the car owner with explosive battery due to damage that would not be covered by warranty.
There is hanky panky going on here.

QUOTE(scorgio @ Dec 15 2023, 10:36 PM) The battery wasn't damaged, the car still drives, why the F u bring it to the dealership & put ur neck on the chopping board? As for the hole, just seal it with whatever cloth tape. Because the car is still in warranty. And the owner is doing it by the book by sending it back to SC to check it out. Mana tau the chibai SC simply told the customer the car is fire hazard because there is visible gap between the battery module and protective plate.

QUOTE(xiaojohn @ Dec 15 2023, 10:37 PM) if they buy TESLA, then will have no such issue... It might also happen with TESLA or any other EV brand for that matter. Because we do not know how far the battery warranty would cover. Like lets say there is a defect with the battery that allowed water to intrude the battery pack causing corrosion. The car dies or all of its electronics shorted out because of it. And you did not drive on flooded roads. But your warranty is denied because they say you drove through flood waters. Then how? Its exactly like phones that does not have IP protection. But the board still got water damaged. And when manufacturer open up the phone, the sticker says water has entered into phone. But the most likely scenario is sweat in pants pockets entered in phone from high humidity when placed inside pocket.

QUOTE(terradrive @ Dec 15 2023, 10:42 PM) still got another case direct contact with hyundai hq, kena juga 50k cad bill lol If there was, then have to see what type of damage the other car had. This one kind of well documented that the owner tried to evade something and still ran over it. From the picture it looked like he ran on a curb. Doesn't even look bad at all and result are only deeper level 7 scratches..

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Dec 15 2023, 10:48 PM) Yeah no. I'm not gonna be buying an ev car in the next few years. I want to see the first batch of evs in Malaysia being tested in real world settings like repair cost, accidents and replacement cost. None of us know this. The battery is the single most expensive part in an EV unfortunately. But seeing this news that it costs even more than a new car after a year is really troubling. Its totally different to hybrids however. The early gen Toyota hybrids used to cost 5 figures to replace the battery. Today it cost 4 figures. But that took a long time to reach that level of price.

QUOTE(IvanWong1989 @ Dec 16 2023, 01:20 AM) The main point from this bideo I get is…. Don’t care what happened or the cause, but battery replacement cost as much as the car itself ? Is this normal for other EV ? How about ice engines.. hmmm It is not uncommon to hear people needing to pay 5 figures for replacing brand new engines even if the car is a year old. For example SC says customer negligence like not changing engine oil caused the engine failure that voids warranty. Then you get a quote for a new engine that costs 5 figures. Sometimes even replacing just a damaged turbo costs 5 figures. Then you have a choice like the guy to write off the car as un economical to repair.

QUOTE(PowerSlide @ Dec 16 2023, 02:01 AM) huh? like that also can? lol video also say quoted from body shop looks like trying to scam the owner with that quote..always something odd with story like these..but still looks like hyundai canada also tidak apa attitude and things like this will hurt them badly in sales But in US/ Can, they have salvage title. Crashed cars can actually be bought, repaired and driven. I think locally we also have same thing, but its called differently. You probably heard how body repair workshop quotes very high price to repair body work and insurance rejects and instead made you claim total loss. Then these cars are bought by body shop from insurance company and repaired to be sold again. I think in /K got people found their crashed cars that was written off on the road again months or years later.
