running gtx 1060, ryzen 5 3600, 1080 hd display.

start to have display totally gone while pc light still on, seems like display issue.
2 times.

guessing gpu issue, been using it a long time.

so start researching about gpu upgrade.

criteria:
- don't need ray tracing or dlss, purely 1080 hd.
- high preference on temperature and power consumption, as these make wear-and-tear the most.
- budget around 1k, not bothering with over 2k.

initial research suggest rx 6600 or rtx 3060.
initial finding:
- so little choices for amd gpu when i browsed through few pc price lists.
- rtx cost about 30-40% extra.
- just read a post about amd gpu driver causing issue like at 3 months ago

welcome useful feedback

I have use amd gpu (6800 and 6800xt) for almost 2years and I had no problem with the driver, just some time driver timeout due to my undervolt setting.

for your budget, if you are ok with used gpu I think you can get 6700xt or 3060ti at around 1-1.2k, or 3070/6800 at around 1.4-1.6k

Go radeon for best price to performance, go RTX for best game compatibility & driver stability

Frankly you better decide fast. Radeon 6000series are being phased out while RTX 3000series are still sold but prices are stubbornly resistant.

If getting 3060 nonTi watch out for crippled 8GB version. Make sure to check and ask for 12GB one. It might be a lil more expensive but worth the price diff.

PS Later bought then found out it was monitor problem. Kek!

Games you play?
Probably a RX6600, or if you need more VRAM then a 3060 icon_idea.gif

Only if the pricing is good and VRAM justifies it. All 8GB from RM1-3k are crap. Still giving 12GB at RM4k for RTX 4070 Ti? Pass

What happens when not enough VRAM? This stutterfest...

This is not the only game. Increasing number of games demands more than 8GB.

Well, I agree with you, but Nvidia is so good in marketing their GPU that every gamers & PC users want to buy Nvidia, including myself.

With 7000series placing from 7900 down to 7600 the only members not yet filled is 7500 & 7400 which is near pointless. So AMD has no reason to keep 6000series in production anymore. The reason why you still see many new are oversupply from AIB and stocks left to rot on shelfs.

Marketing yes, but FWIW nvidia has the better out of box product with better stable drivers, better matured RT, no weird issues like disappearing sun in certain game, better video encoder, has overall better render support, more seamless streaming, or casting, or similar.

That's on the AMD store, you probably still can buy RX6000 cards in retail markets (aka third party offline/online stores) for the foreseeable future icon_idea.gif

That's why I choose Nvidia eventhough the price is crazy. Somehow games seem to work better on Nvidia or maybe it's just placebo.

Just to not to create another thread. Is ryzen 3600 with 3070 for 1440p capable for 2023 2024 tripleA game?

Or need a totally new system?
I see some other forum said 3600 with bottleneck 3070 but some said will only bottleneck 1080p due to 1080p will use more cpu whilst 1440p use more gpu

Play it first. If it has stutterfest then you upgrade.

What is your motherboard brand and model?

Update your BIOS. Hunt for Ryzen 7 5700X3D after that.

The higher you go up reso, the less that CPU matters as it tends to be GPU limited however if the GPU is fast enough (ie 4070TI & above) it will still lead to a CPU bottleneck.

Too much variation and also game dependent. Prolly like i5 Ksku/ i7 would pair with 4070 and above.
