What qualifies as national car in your opinion? Fully made in Malaysia? Or designed by Malaysians?

Because Perodua has been designing their own cars not just for Malaysia market but ASEAN market also. From Bezza starting already no longer just rebadging. New Axia new Vios all with huge involvement from Perodua. The cars also 90-95% local content made in Malaysia.

When their design documents doesn't need Daihatsu to handhold them. Ask any Perodua supplier and see how much Perodua engineers are in charge and when Daihatsu has to step in.

Echoing his comments, that S70 may bring fresh start for P1 to sell anything else besides SUV. I have news for him. I checked the Geely website, I did not see any other models that are sedan aside Emgrand. Their models are all SUV !!!!!!!

Older models like MPV Jiaji, for some unknown reason I think Geely has discontinued.

So unfortunately, P1 is gonna remain a SUV selling co.

P2 laugh all the way to the bank with no major competitors for non SUV models. Of course, P1 still has Persona and Saga but they are like frozen in development.

Exora is still lacking development.

Geely for some unknown reason is not bothered to assist P1 to improve on Saga and Exora, even though they have the expertise. Just the same as they still give P1 3 cylinder engines instead of the 4 cylinder ones.

Exora should be replaced by Jiaji, however don't expect to be cheap like Exora, same price as Boyue or X70.

Geely has zero interest in developing below 60k cars. They don't have platform OR cheap cars for Proton to rebadge into new Saga.

This one nvm provided they give Proton RnD money to make new Saga, Persona and Exora. But nope, nothing at all. In few years Saga will be very obsolete, the platform around since 2005 Savvy. I don't know what will happen, maybe Malaysia will lose Proton Saga which is quite sad for me personally.

Toyota Thailand is basically a "local" company for them. Same with Toyota in Indonesia.
Also Geely don't really have RHD models until they worked with Plotong. Deswai they usually only release in the Philippines only for this region.

Malaysians wants cars in this price range. Saga and Bezza all best sellers for this year. Shows how much majority of Malaysians can only afford to pay, compared to how ppl in /k/ is earning.

I know. Malaysia how also will need Saga, we will always need a cheap people's car. But if you want new Saga by 2025-2026 development should be starting this year already, new car need 24-36 months for development. Yet no development at all, no new platform announcement nothing.

Geely cheapest platform is BMA now which is impossible to build 40k car with BMA. And until today Geely not giving Proton BMA itself, just rebadging Geely cars made from BMA, not Proton design new car based on BMA.

I don;t even see Jiaji in Geely's website anymore.

But the point is, no cheap car below 40k-60k for Proton to make into Persona Saga.

Its almost impossible to modify current Saga any further but current competitor like Axia already have 6 airbags and ADAS. Current Saga only two airbags. Very expensive to modify current platform, might as well build new one but Geely not willing to put money in.

fyi S70 parts mostly CKD and assemble here. Then they delcare it as local supply.

Saga will get refresh in 2026, new engine, new platform. Design will be by local. Exora no more, already discontinue. Next in line will be Iriz and Persona, both before 2025. X70 will get refresh next year with new IP. X50 the year after.

Saga refresh 2026? Time is tight unless they already begin, only 24 months left. Even if redesign "top hat" from BMA is impossible, no way BMA can make 40k product. New engine from where Geely don't have 1.3 or 1.0 engines I don't think. It cannot be Campro VVT, they already announce EOL, so is it revival of Volcano and Magma projects? Or those two already completely shelved?

So, anneh highly doubt next gen saga, persone will be fully r&d in house done by proton. Probably geely will supply the platform, engine, etc2 while the exterior maybe slight change from any existing model lineup across all geely owned brand.

As they already said msia market is fairly small and it doesnt make economical sense to fully built a car ground up in house proton.

That's the problem, Geely don't have such products otherwise done long ago.

Saga and Persona still market leader for Proton. Remove these two model Proton can close shop, those Geely/Proton rebadge not selling enough.

Malaysia market is small that's why have to sell to Thailand/Indonesia. All this while still consider profitable but need new market. Geely not willing to open up new market or go into Thailand and Indonesia again, two biggest countries that have huge demand for this kind of RM40k car.
