QUOTE(karenzayn @ Feb 9 2024, 03:13 PM) Here's what my ex-tm tech friend said to me, Ok, since i see no issue in the past week, i will just let it be, if it ain't broke, don't fix it its still fine as long the modem LOS red light not lit up, so its not a big concern but you're concern and since your fiber cable is yellow, I assume that you house has a fiber wall socket, you can replace by yourself, just buy a patch cord just like this photo below... ![]() TQ karenzayn liked this post

Not going to invest more $$ for Mesh, i just use existing router i have to extend the wifi signal, for working room purposes.
Off topic, the Main router has enabled ipv6, second router since turned repeater mode on, ipv6 setting disappeared. Whenever i access internet from second router, it is only ipv4 connection. QUOTE(Omochao @ Feb 17 2024, 10:02 AM) Looks okay to me, wireless hops will only able to achieve near or to close half of what your actual speed is. Mesh is just a name, the end results is just to increase coverage or signal strength. Unless you get a mesh or router that has a dedicated wireless band for backhaul, then you can achieve almost or exact to actual speed. QUOTE(sadlyfalways @ Feb 17 2024, 01:54 PM) |

Wanna ask about dns setup, do i need to setup dns, e.g. Quad9, in every devices, even i have set up dns in wifi router?
I noticed my connection is not using Quad9 even i setup dns in router. QUOTE(dev/numb @ Apr 25 2024, 06:28 AM) In our region, if you’re looking for speed over all else, big two candidates are likely Cloudflare or Google. It also depends on your ISP/Telco peering, and I’m sure you know how badly Unifi sucks at night. If you want some form of ad/tracker/malware filtering or a non-logging DNS, then you can look at providers like NextDNS, Quad9, ControlD, dnsWarden, AhaDNS-Blitz. Most of these providers have globally distributed servers so you can try and see if you get one with good performance. |

I'm using NextDNS to check which dns is using.
I'm using TPLink Archer C1200 which i don't think it support encrypted DoH/DoT, i'll have to manually setup dns on each device Edit: Want to ask if NextDNS/Quad9 is completely free? While i see Nextdns has pricing plans QUOTE(dev/numb @ Apr 25 2024, 10:45 PM) Depends. How are you checking the connection? Some web browsers or operating systems will override your router DNS if they have their own encrypted DNS – usually DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) or DNS-over-TLS (DoT) – settings. For example, I think Chrome and Android will always default to using Google DNS unless you manually change the connection settings. This post has been edited by The.Lucas.DaY: Apr 26 2024, 11:38 AMEdit: If your router DNS settings doesn’t support encrypted DoH/DoT, then it is always a good idea to set an encrypted DNS on device. Especially useful for mobile devices, since you will continue using the custom DNS you’ve configured even when you’re on cellular data or joined another wifi network. |

QUOTE(choongy @ Jun 13 2024, 05:10 AM) Hi guys, I have been a Unifi user for years and I was first given a DIR 850 router. Fast forward many years, TM upgraded my 100mbps plan to a 300mbps plan for free last week. However, a speed test with my CAT6 Lan cable connected to my PC shows 100 Mb/s, and the speed test with wifi through my phone shows around 100 Mb/s as well. What should I do to get a more optimal speed? Even my Dlink DIR 842 can goes to 300Mbps with 5ghz wifi on my old iPad (same upgraded from 100Mbps)1. Downgrade my plan to 100mbps since I don't see the difference atm 2. Buy a wifi 6 router, but I'm not sure which to get 3. Try to request a new router from TM and refresh the 2 years contract Kindly help me out all the sifus here. Thank you very much in advance |
