Hanya orang yang mempunyai otak taliban fikir benang basah kalau tak boleh cakap BM.

Generational trauma from decades of discrimination and unfair policies led by a Malay-majority gov (UMNO) is not something to overlook. I can't count the no. of times I've met uncles and aunties who want nothing to do with anything Malay because experiences such as May 13th. 2/6

So what does someone who has been mistreated/ignored/judged/attacked/discriminated against do? In a country like Malaysia, where racial privilege is very real and retaliation is not really in the cards of the minorities, they retreat into the safety of their own spaces. 3/6

Generational trauma like this is not easy to heal from, and ministers who fail to understand this, but rather double down without empathy, is part of the problem. Of course, the current gen has it in their cards to step up and move on, but it's not an overnight thing. 4/6

Some aren't fluent because of a lack of access to learning. Some simply choose to disengage simply because they don't see a future for themselves here. Regardless, no one should be mistreated for the languages they speak. Yelling at them about it isn't the answer either. 5/6

As usual, everything is so intertwined here that no single solution will solve this, and this is a mere symptom of the larger issues.

When 🇲🇾 becomes a country where unity is built on acceptance rather than tolerance, perhaps we may see a way out of this mess. 6/6
