Hi, can I get some recommendations for short term investment.

I have about RM40k cash in my bank (excluding emergency fund). I'm not good in stock market. Is the best and safest way to invest this money is via bank fixed deposit?

Looking to invest around max 1 year duration. And I'm not a risk taker, so no stock market or forex for me. I'm in my early 40s, married & no kids.

What is your "wanted" % of returns for your money invested in this short term?

Please do not play shares now ,bursa even worst. Things are so unstable now . If you want to invest in FD wait till End year after Bank negara increase rates.

I'm looking at 1 year investment. Maybe around 5% to 6% returns? Or is it too unrealistic?

Depend on age, how long is short term and what how much you want.
If you are 55 and above, no brainer. EPF.
If you don't care about PIDM, KDI save give you 4%p.a for first RM50k. subsequent amount will give you lower returns.
If you care about PIDM then high yield savings account. You may have to jump though hoops to get your high interest.
Alternatively short term FD 1-3 m promo FD if you don't want to jump through hoops

You are daydreaming πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ BNM has said they won’t increase any rates in the next few years because of slowing growth so don’t dream OPR go even past 3.5% not to mention 4% but in facts cuts might be in place of next year recession and govt don’t have any money in place for stimulus πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ as Malaysia inflation is still manageable πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ so don’t expect any rate increase

Unrealistic πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ if you don’t want too take any risks as even EPF is struggling to hit 6%

Too late to all on Bitcoin as the low of 1*k πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ already hitting 40k and won’t go up much from there πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I won’t listen to your banker πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ as they have no foresight and BNM monetary policy is not as independent as what you think as it is stifle by political influence πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ the only way they would increase is that the economy is on gangbusters with every quarter hitting 6% which is unlikely πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ with current economic fundamentals

Well, that's up to you - but stating OPR will not be raised in the next few years sounds illogical as well. So I rather just wait and see.

That I proposed Ts wait and see as well. What was your Suggestion again to TS? May be you can shed some light whats the best current short term investment?

BNM got no balls to increase interest rate. Even Indonesia and Philippines central bank increase interest rate.

I think you are daydreaming a lot πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ history has shown already πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

https://www.bnm.my/monetary-stability/opr-decisions

3.5% last reach was Oct 2008 πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ that was when before GFC and they cut to 2% and raise it later to 3% in May 2011 when the economy recovers and never gone past 3.25% until pre pandemic when it was 3% and they cut to 1.75% which is the lowest they can go πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ and history shows a pattern that BNM with govt interference will not want to raise past 3% so you keep on daydreaming because the cut might happen next year instead when the Feds start cutting aggressively and BNM will follow pat with at least 2 cuts to match them πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

The best for him with his risk tolerance and worried too much just put into Versa, GX Bank and KDI mixture

You are right πŸ‘ BNM has balls while letting RM depreciate πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ as you can see now Indonesian and Phillipines are strengthening against USD while RM still hanging around in the high 4.6 range

Day dreaming lol --- simply speculating is even worst. Trying to based the market merely based on history is really doesn't work . Things are different now... no GOV can survive without increasing rates that's why opinion . So yeah.

Continue your own dreamland.

Im not here to call names and exchanged opinions. Merely giving reason to TS only

BTW - All investment you stated -- NON of it covered by PIDM -- but FD is....so really up to Ts to choose.

History repeats itself in Malaysia πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ as BNM is dictated by it and market has shown it already as it keeps on repeating itself since RM was released from the currency exchange green in the late 80s πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ as you wouldn’t know because you will never understand and learnt from it as local bankers are not as smart as what you think as they are more vultures

No investment is covered by PIDM in the 1st place πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ as only savings and FD are covered by it πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ as you cannot it as investment but savings bonus which GX is covered by PIDM itself πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
