Dear car enthusiasts,

A few days back, my car got splatter with cement from parking near a construction site. The cement is all over my car albeit not large spots but rather small ones like the size of a typical water droplet.

Now, I've done my fair share of research and it seems that the best way to remove them is to use Muriatic Acid (aka Hydrochloric Acid).

Anyone has any experience in this problem? And where can I get Muriatic Acid?

Breaks my heart looking at my car everyday! cry.gif

better look for auto detailer to do it for u...
any acid may "melt" ur car paint easily even though bird poo... doh.gif
if thru rubbing method, the cement may starting become sandy... the sand may scratch ur car paint...

so better look for professional detailer to do for u, at least they more experience than us...

the acid can damage our body organ as well... sweat.gif

Hydrochloric acid in high concentrations forms acidic mists. Both the mist and the solution have a corrosive effect on human tissue, potentially damaging respiratory organs, eyes, skin and intestines

You could try using acetone, but you got to be really careful with it.

Saw this here ; see if it will work:

Cement and plaster are alkaline compounds. They are easily removed from clothes, woodwork, your body and cars using distilled white vinegar (a mild acid). Simply soak a sponge with the vinegar and lay it on the cement spots for a few seconds. This will loosen the cement so it can be hosed away. It may take a couple applications to remove the cement from the car. Whatever you do, don't try to wipe the cement off with the sponge, as this will scratch the paint.

Thanx for all your replies...

I've comfirmed that the acid will not wear off my paint provided I don't leave it on for too long. If I remember correctly, the cement will dissolve within a few minutes of contact. And the max the acid can be left on is 15 mins. Muriatic acid is in fact milder than hydrochloric.

I will be sending my car to an auto detailer tomorrow. So hopefully they can find a way to get rid of them....

BTW, I'm driving a City Dec-06....not even a year yet...so it's damn heartbreaking!!!! cry.gif

I'll keep you guys posted on the outcome tomorrow... wink.gif

I'd just use pressure cleaner to spray it off.

Hi all,

It's been a weekend of hurtful heartbreak and burnt pockets....

I've sent my car to a detailer for a complete polish. Tried using water and normal washing but I can't get the larger spots off. So no choice I've to get the professionals to do it.

It's a 5-step polish using Meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner/Polish... Waited 4 hours for the car to be completed. But It's definitely worth the wait (and money)... Car now is so smooth, dust practically roll off the body! Haha... For RM350, you wouldn't expect less would you?

The package comes with 2-years warranty on shine. There's another package using AutoGlym products which costs RM280 but excludes workmanship on the cement (~RM100) and only 1-year warranty.

Pretty much the end of the story. Though not entirely happy but in the end, car's still looking good even after the disaster its been through...that's the important part.

So thanks you guys for the comments...
