First time buying car here, has booked a new Toyota Vios. Not going to use the car much as I'll be working from home. Only occasional grocery shopping which the mall is just 7 mins drive.
Is it compulsory to get Toyota's default insurance? Or can get from third party provider? Heard there are mileage based insurance out there, seems attractive for my current situation.

Yeah there is insurance policy that determines by mileage driven. I think if less than certain threshold they refund you. Personally have not tried it though.

QUOTE(ktek @ Nov 18 2023, 08:09 PM) how much the insur fee & ncd u got ? First time car owner, I would be expecting 0% NCD. Insurance charges from Toyota is rm3680.25. So can I not take the Toyota insurance? Is it advisable to do so?

Heard there are mileage based insurance out there, seems attractive for my current situation. If I'm not wrong, if you are getting a new car through hire purchase you are required to get comprehensive insurance (this is more expensive than 3rd party insurance) which usually cost between RM2K-3K/year for a RM80-100k car (estimate based on my car). You can choose any comprehensive insurance coverage by any issuer This post has been edited by -kytz-: Nov 20 2023, 07:08 PM

My selection process
A. Avoid any with infamous reputation eg Kurnia B. Select those provide agreed value and not market value (insurance are all scammers) C. In my car manufacturer panel. Easier to facilitate repair claims. Eg my Honda, i get from Honda panel of insurers. Older cars i dont bother cos not going to send back their centre. D. Those that provide discount but see point A E. Easy online purchase
