Hey all, just trying to ask here to see if there's any help I can get.
I am looking for a Home Care that takes in mental health patient, not just Alzheimer's or old folk's illness, but illness like Schizo.
Backstory
I'm a sole care giver for my 70 y.o mother who suffers from Schizo for 30 over years.
She has very poor insight of her condition, meaning she doesn't believe that she has this illness, and she believes that the voices that she hears in the house are "placed" by relatives and in-laws.
As a result of that, she doesn't wants to see or talk to anyone except for me, my sister and my niece. Both my sister and my niece are in Australia, hence the responsibility of taking care of my mother falls on me.
Having poor insight also means she doesn't believe in the doctors and the medication that they prescribed, to ensure that she is taking the medicine, I have to give it to her and see her take it in person every single day and night.
This is taking a big toll on me in every aspect of my life, my mental health, my freedom, my marriage, and my work.
My wife is staying in KL, and we have been in a long distance rship/marriage, and it's best for both of us if I move to KL.
In order to move out, I need to find her a Home that can take her in, and also a place that she can accept.
This is the hurdle I am stuck at.
Home Care for Mental patients in Malaysia
I'm staying in Penang, and I've been trying to look for home care that can take care of mental health patient such as my mother, with poor insights of her illness, she will be resistive of taking medication and can get agitated and aggressive when she relapse.
I know of one place (lets call this Home A) behind GH, I have seen the place before and unfortunately, it's not a place where I can put her there. It's like a house prison, for lack of better words to describe, but it also mean that they are prepared for potential aggressive patients such as my mother, and it's literally behind GH.
Home A
Pros:
Can manage aggressive patient, I don't have to worry about them kicking out my mother.
Quite affordable.
Close to GH, they can bring her for checkup or any health complication.
Cons:
Cramped place.
Not a living condition I can bring myself to force my mother to stay there.
There's another place I surveyed and visited (Home B), this is a better living condition with her own room and aircond and TV. Staffs there are nice and they even give 2D1N free trial before they start charging.
After speaking with the staffs, I don't have the confidence that they are equiped or prepared for my mother's potential aggressiveness and disruptive mood. Very likely that she will cause problems to the other patients and ultimately, getting kicked out from the centre. Price is about RM3k a month, not inclusive of trips to the hospital.
Home B
Pros:
Decent and comfortable living condition with personal room, aircond and TV.
Nice staffs.
Price is still within acceptable range.
Cons:
Not equiped or prepared for disruptive patient, risk of getting kicked out.
I have tried looking for homes elsewhere, I haven't really looked into KL as I think the prices will be very expensive. I tried asking the psych clinics from GH and associations such as D'Home Penang for recommendations, the list they provided weren't really helpful. So here I am, reaching out to anyone here if they know of places that is suitable for my mother's condition. I am open to places outside of Penang, but I only have 1 shot in this because my mother is not fond of this idea, the moment I fetch her there, if it doesn't work out, she won't follow me into my car anymore.
