I am seriously considering getting an iMac... But I wana know if iMac works well with games or not... How does The Sims 2 run on an iMac? Coz the highest spec is RM8k, and for the same specs can get PC for RM4k-RM5k... And that specs is not even considered high end for PC... I think every other aspect of Mac's are awesome... Just dont know about gaming tho... My question are: Any iMac owners here? And which spec u using? Works with Sims 2 or not? What other good games does iMac work with?

Hmm.. Sims 2 should work fine. The iMac should work fine with all games since it comes with a dedicated video card. Of course, it's not a high end card so don't expect to run every game at High res.

U can also install Windows Xp on Mac natively like my iMac. So far i play Half Life 2, Quake 4, quite ok

If your purpose is purely gaming, there is no point of going for Mac because many games are not available for Mac platform. Even though this trend is changing but you will only get the latest games slower than Windows version. Anyway it also depends on what type of games you play. If its the latest FPS, RPG or RTS type of games you will have problems with the graphics card in the iMac but if its just Sims type of games (not graphically intensive), you'll have no problem.

i think it should be ok since the new imac can play some of the heavy games from EA...

I have no intention of playing games like Doom or Quake or any of those... My current PC is Dell, and it has crap specs. The only game I own is The Sims 2, which lags despite running with everything turned off (shadow, mirror reflection, etc.) So, I am thinking that the only game I will run on the iMac (if I get one) will be The Sims 2 and all its expension packs. Is there anyone here that actually has the Sims 2 running on their iMac? And I dont intend on running XP on my iMac either. Because if it isnt going to work well on the iMac, then I guess I will just have to stick to PC.

You can get the mac version (but if you got the PC version stick to it). You can run windows games (not all) on top of OSX using Cedega. If you want pure gaming , boot into XP.

Sims 2 works fine on my hackint0sh. The OSX version. Just minor fps decrease as opposed to the Windows version (maybe its because of the drivers). It will work fine its just that you need to buy the Mac version of it. The graphics card are quite good in it. Plus the beauty of Mac lies within the system. You are actually paying for the design and the superb system !

Sims 2 appears to be fine in Mac. Better you buy the one that was made to play in Mac.

I can assure you it'll work fine. The iMac is more than enough to play The Sims 2. I should be getting an iMac too, if the stocks with Leopard preloaded arrive early.


Btw I'm using a Windows PC fitted with a GeForce 4 MX with only 64MB of RAM, and I STILL can play The Sims 2. So don't even worry about iMac

The Sims 2 needs 256 MB of RAM, and iMac comes with 1024 MB. It also needs a video card with at least 64 MB of RAM, and the iMac has one with 256 MB of RAM.

i play the sims 2 on my imac with no prob...of course it's better if u're not playing at full resolution so that when you're going downtown where there are many other sims, it won't lagged too much...

farcry, company of heroes, oblivion also runs well, as long as you don't put every settings at ultra high. overall, you can pretty much play any games on the imac, but don't expect a cinematic gorgeous display...i say it's at the medium...

p/s: all games are run on windows through bootcamp...
