No just repaint the whole car after few years.

All cars come with clear paint coating since late 80's already. Well, it is the cheapest and not as durable as other types like ceramic, synthetic sealant, etc.

This clear coat can become fragile and crack under sun due to UV ray. You can see that many car where owners probably do not wash car as regular got peeled or flaking clear layer. That is the coating.

Well. I'd say the coating makes the car looks shiny buy it will not protect against stone chips.
