Hamas Launches Attack on Israel on October 7, 2023

Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel opposes any temporary ceasefire in Gaza unless Hamas frees all hostages. Meanwhile, on the ground, Israel's military said it is surrounding Gaza City as its bombardment of the enclave intensifies.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was in Israel for talks Friday, said the US believes efforts to get humanitarian assistance in and hostages out of Gaza “would be facilitated by humanitarian pauses.”

Israel admitted responsibility for an attack outside a Gaza hospital that witnesses say killed and wounded dozens, with videos showing people bloodied and strewn across the ground. Israel said it targeted an ambulance being used by Hamas.

The chief of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, called for a Gaza ceasefire and warned clashes at the Israel-Lebanon border have a "realistic" possibility of escalating into a broader Middle East conflict.

Ramai Boikot Produk Pro Israel, Saham McDonald's-Starbucks Malah Menguat

Selasa, 31 Okt 2023

"Pengaruh secraa sentimen, iya. Tetapi itu sentimen sesaat. Nggak yang jangka panjang. Karena kan aksi boikot itu kita harus lihat apakah produk mereka itu terboikot semua di seluruh dunia?

Bisa aja boikot cuma di McDonald's misalnya ya Arab, Mesir, Israel, tetapi di Indonesia mungkin nggak, Malaysia nggak. Jadi itu saya bilang tadi lebih ke sentimen sesaat," terangnya kepada detikcom, Selasa (31/10/2023).

Heboh Boikot Brand Pro Israel, Begini Kondisi Saham McDonald's-Starbucks

Starbucks, McDonald's, KFC,

PepsiCo,

Netflix hingga Walt Disney.

Kemudian, harga saham McDonald's hari ini, berdasarkan data di Bursa Efek New York tercatat naik 1,72% menjadi US$ 260,15.

Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, Teem, Dole, Lay's,
Doritos, Tropicana, Gatorade, dan Quaker.

Berdasarkan data di Nasdaq, harga saham PEP hari ini tercatat naik 1,67% menjadi US$ 162,28. Dibandingkan sebulan lalu, harga saham PEP anjlok 4,07%, merosot dari US$ 169,17.

Harga saham NFLX hari ini berdasarkan data di Nasdaq tercatat naik 3,07% menjadi US$ 410,08. Dibandingkan sebulan lalu, harga saham Netflix juga naik 7,82%, dari US$ 376,75.

Terakhir, harga saham The Walt Disney Company (DIS) hari ini dikutip dari Bursa Efek New York, tercatat naik 1,70% menjadi US$ 80,68. Dibandingkan sebulan lalu, harga saham Disney anjlok 1,21%, dari US$ 81,67.

McDonald's Malaysia says staff harassed and abused over Gaza conflict
AUG 8, 2014
KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - McDonald's Malaysia said their staff had to endure harassment, threats and verbal abuse over the boycott of Israeli-products led by certain parties.
The boycott came about after a number of non-governmental organisations claimed that the international fast-food chain was providing funds for Israel to carry out the war in Gaza.
McDonald's Malaysia issued a press statement on Friday in which it said some of their outlets were subjected to acts of vandalism to the extent that they had to shut down operations for the day.
"The reality is that our employees and franchisees have done nothing wrong and it is grossly unfair that they should be targeted in such a way," the statement said.
The company reiterated its stand that it "does not channel any sales, profits or franchise fees from restaurants to support any political causes or conflicts in any part of the world."
"We have been consistent and transparent in communicating our position but unfortunately the information we share have been misinterpreted by certain parties.
"While we understand and respect that the act of boycotting is an individual decision, nevertheless, we are disappointed that McDonald's Malaysia has been unfairly targeted."
McDonald's urged Malaysians to remain calm and refrain from carrying out any acts that may harm any parties.
"Let us all remind ourselves that we are Malaysians and we share a common bond. We can agree to disagree respectfully.
"But most important of all, let us all continue to pray for the conflict and continued peace in Gaza," said the statement.
In Masjid Jamek, two guards were seen guarding the McDonald's outlet. When asked if anything untoward happened today, both of them refused to comment.
The Star also went to check several McDonald's outlets in Petaling Jaya old town, Mid Valley and Seksyen 14 and found it was business as usual there.
"Nothing happened so far. Though the number of customers have reduced due to the boycott but we haven't faced any problems," said the manager at the Petaling Jaya old town outlet.
Most of the customers said it was the people's right to boycott but not to vandalise and hurl abuse at employees.
Jeffrey Chiam, a 25-year-old IT specialist, said most of his friends have boycotted McDonald's but criticised the approach of some people who went to the extreme to vent their displeasure.
"I heard some people threw slippers, spat at employees and vandalised outlets. If these are true, it is a shame.
"You want to boycott...by all means, do it but do it in a respectable manner. These employees are here to earn a living, not support the Israelis," said Chiam.
College student S.Arshveen, 23, said violence happens everywhere and boycotting will not stop the war in Gaza.
"Instead of boycotting these outlets, why not donate or volunteer to help the people in Gaza. To me, that is a better way to show your concern for the people in Gaza," he said.
Israel attacks on Gaza since July 8 left over 1,800 Palestinians dead, including hundreds of women and children, and many more injured and numerous homes destroyed.

I believe McD Corp in US already saw the risk in muslim dominated region that there will be such boycott in the future due to this perception.

Thus, they sold their stakes back in 2016 to Arab owners to cut down on risk and to just receive royalty. They better off increase their direct stake holdings in western countries as boycott are unlikely to happen there.

Now, the Arab owner is the one who kena as Malaysians blindly boycott.

(REUTERS) - McDonald's Corp said on Friday (Dec 2) it had sold the franchise rights for its restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia to Saudi Arabia's Lionhorn Pte Ltd as part of a plan to move away from direct ownership in Asia.

The fast-food chain said it transferred its ownership interest in 390 restaurants, more than 80 per cent of which were company-owned, on Dec 1 to Lionhorn.

Lionhorn is led by Sheik Fahd and Abdulrahman Alireza, who are franchisees for nearly 100 McDonald's restaurants in the western and southern regions of Saudi Arabia.

McDonald's did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

McDonald’s S'pore not retrenching
McDonald's in US retrenching.

April 05, 2023

McDonald's in Singapore is not retrenching, the fast food giant confirmed, according to The Straits Times.

It was reported that McDonald’s in the United States is laying off corporate workers.

A spokesman for McDonald’s Singapore told ST that there is no direct impact on operations here as the restaurants here are directly owned and operated by a local company, Hanbaobao: “The events in the US do not impact our local market.”

McDonald’s Singapore is under the direct licensee model led by Hanbaobao, which looks after the employment of its

10,000-staff workforce.

There are more than 140 McDonald’s restaurants in Singapore, with new ones opening recently, such as at

Sengkang Grand Mall and Choa Chu Kang Park.

It is not known how many corporate employees are there in Singapore.

McDonald’s temporarily closed its U.S. offices till April 5 in preparation of layoffs among its corporate staff.

U.S. employees and international staff will be informed virtually if they have been axed.

McDonald's structure of ownership in Singapore

Singapore franchise-holder Hanbaobao is wholly owned by holding company Lion Arches.

Lion Arches is held by Lionhorn, a Saudi-led firm.

Lionhorn bought the franchise rights for McDonald’s restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia in 2016.

Boycotting Businesses: Federal Territory Religious Department: Extremist Behavior Violates Religious Teachings

April 16, 2024

Lukman Abdullah of the Federal Territory Religious Department advises individuals considering boycotting businesses allegedly associated with Israel not to cross moral boundaries and calls for respect for the rule of law.

According to a report by "Free Malaysia Today," Lukman Abdullah stated that the decision to boycott a brand or product lies solely with consumers, and others should not impose their will on them.

"I urge everyone, regardless of their actions, to adhere to morality and maintain good behavior," he said. He added that whether to boycott establishments like McDonald's is entirely up to consumers. Following the outbreak of the Israel-Palestine conflict, Israeli McDonald's announced that five outlets would provide 4,000 meals daily to civilians, healthcare workers, and the military.

However, this move was seen as expressing support for the Israeli military, leading to dissatisfaction among many Muslim countries supporting Hamas or Palestine, prompting them to boycott.

Nevertheless, Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd, the operator of McDonald's in Malaysia, emphasized that the donation of meals by Israeli McDonald's does not reflect the values or actions of McDonald's Malaysia and is merely a unilateral and independent market action by Israeli McDonald's.

McDonald's Malaysia is a locally operated company that has been under the ownership of Lionhorn Pte. Ltd since 2017, and it is wholly owned by Muslims under the Reza Group, a Saudi Arabian company.

Subsequently, the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement (BDS Malaysia) called for a boycott of McDonald's Malaysia.

On the 13th of this April, the police confirmed that 5 individuals were arrested for insulting and provoking Malay-Muslim customers at a McDonald's outlet, one of whom is a soldier.

The police invoked Section 506 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation) for investigation, which carries a maximum penalty of 2 years' imprisonment or a fine, or both upon conviction.

In response, Lukman Abdullah reminded Muslims that extremist behavior goes against Islamic teachings. "Whatever you do, it must not be illegal or cross moral boundaries.

Now already less boikot?

Bacm to nornal like after covid-19 ?

A few MNC are planning to move their production lines from here. In a few years time, many will complain for lack of job opportunities and have only themselves to blame.

What goes around, comes around. For reasons, why some countries are poor even have cheap labour e.g Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.
