How did MAS sink so low.
Honestly, 30 plus years ago, whenever a cheap(er) student airfare ticket for a poor student like me came up, I always prayed that I would strike lottery and get an MAS flight instead of a Qantas one.
The stewards and stewardesses were hardworking and warm and friendly to a fault and I will never forget that one time on a half empty flight back from Sydney, a stewardess served me two portions of Argentinian beef fillet steaks. In economy class. It was delicious - moist, tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. It left such a strong impression in me that for years I’d hope to get the same menu whenever I was lucky enough to get a cheap(er) student fare seat on MAS.
It truly saddens me to see how this has played out over time.

MAS generated massive losses flying to exotic places and buying planes like a380
the fact that you flew on a half empty plane to Sydney shows how much loss MAS was making
