Why is it so popular in US for 2nd-hand shopping but dead in Malaysia?

I used to use ebay until.

It tax on everything that even when it is tax free

It's shipping sky rocketed while Aliexpress almost negligible

60~70% of the goods sell to US only.

Not much seller in this region. good stuff usually in us or eu

because of Shopee

I had been using ebay and Amazon a lot, until the day I discover Taobao.

I am still using ebay to find old electronic stuffs.

because their potential market is 10x the size of ours?

Because Malaysian prefer to kena scam on certain platforms

Because we have Mudah first and most people transact in this platform. But unfortunately it doesn't have any middle man and that mean no protection.

When it existed in MY it only had PayPal payments only right? There is also problem that most products sold in US not available locally. And most sellers in Ebay US usually sells used items. And small sellers do not want to do international shipping. Local sellers also do not want to sell there because payments/ taxes/ shipping cost are high.

Expesive when shipping & taxes comes into total payment.

even for MY seller to MY buyer?

Import & shipping cost too high..
We get our Carousell & Mudah for that too

ebay is almost dead there
