I thought GX bank card only 4 digit pin?

QUOTE(joshhd @ May 24 2025, 03:10 PM)
What will be the passcode for ATM? my GX bank code?
Yes, enter the same 6 digits PIN of your GX Bank card.
On the China's ATM, you select the CNY amount you want to withdraw, once you got your cash, you'll see your GX Bank's balance has deducted in MYR. Pretty straightforward.
The withdrawal limit is the same as your GX Bank's transaction limit settings.

Can direct use GX bank without pair pair with Alipay?
Technically you can.
But don't be surprised if you see many shops there (e.g. restaurants, convenient stores, boutique stores) don't even have a card payment machine.
And even if there is, they may only accept UnionPay cards but not Visa/Mastercard cards.
But of course, if you so happen to see a Visa and Mastercard logo sticker/labels around the cashier, then you can be rest assured.  biggrin.gif

GX Bank card uses Mastercard payment network.
So, as long that merchant accepts Mastercard card payment, then it should work just like any other Mastercard cards you have from other banks.
If you see a card payment machine on the cashier, you can just try and use your GX Bank card and wave it onto the payment machine to see if the transaction went through.
It may feels like a hit-and-miss thing, so do manage your expectation.

If you have other overseas-travel-friendly debit cards such as Wise card or TnG Visa card, it's a great idea to also bring it along as a backup. Don't rely 100% on GX Bank card only.

Even if that shop accepts cash, they may not have small change if you pay in larger bills.
Yes, China really embraces cashless payments till that extent.

GX Bank uses 6 digits PIN.

Wise card uses 4 digits PIN. I think you got mixed up with Wise card.

FYI, GX Bank card linked to Alipay doesn't work in China. You may need to use alternative card like Bigpay/Wise.

When was the last time you made payment with Alipay where the payment method is linked to the GX Bank card?

it does work actually

just doesn't work every time

I went a number of places in China using Alipay+ and also cash. Yet to meet a merchant without change. Using taxis it's better to use Didi rather than cash as my last experience using cash for taxis got overcharged even using meter. My fault actually for not being observant enough.

You book DiDi ride through Alipay+ app and paid using GX Bank card?
Or you install the dedicated DiDi app and paid using GX Bank card?

Nope. I link Wise to Alipay+ app and use Didi from Alipay app(i do have standalone Didi app though). In Japan though i use Gxbank debit card to buy shinkasen but must remember to activate it for overseas use. Infact most debit card must activate fir overseas use.

At present I am in Thailand now, purchases using Gxbank card today with a conversion rate of 7.63 and including 1% cashback makes it worth using. Must remember to select payment in baht though on the reader, if not will need pay merchant conversion of 7.30 and still not including fees.

Just curious, what's the difference between using DiDi inside Alipay+ app, versus using standalone DiDi app to book your ride?

Is it because GX Bank card would have higher chance to work on either one of the option?

First of all I did not use Gxbank in China. Infact it's nearly impossible to use debit or credit card in China except for linkage with Alipay+ Weixin Pay. There is no benefit of using Gxbank linkage to Alipay+ as I believe to be entitled for 1% cashback it needs to be use in store with physical card.

I use standalone Didi while in Beijing and Alipay+ mini app for others.
Not sure that I notice any difference.
