Due to increasing demand of the agricultural sector, this field is bound to bring in big bucks in the near future. So I'm kinda positive that I will be studying in this field in university later. I'm just not very sure which type of agriculture will be more in demand in five years time.

I've set sights on three programmes in UPM, that are agricultural science (somewhat diverse in all fields but more towards crops and plants), animal science (focusing on land livestock) and aquaculture (focusing on seafood). I'd be extremely grateful if anyone in this field could answer my question.

I've also done research on food science. However, what that is really striking the global market now are new methods of farming and rearing as well as ways to increase product mass. For example, China is currently researching on indoor rearing of fish as opposed to traditional sea fishing and also efficient livestock production. This trend is also carrying on to Singapore. I doubt that food science is related to this field. Thanks for your suggestion anyway!

havent I answered your question in a previous thread? hmm.gif

yes.. food security is a matter of concern for Malaysia... our population will become larger every year... food shortage is a major issue...

If you have land - you can venture as an entrepreneur in farming and animal husbandry...
or you can start as an apprentice under large agricultural/plantation companies like - Sime Darby etc

search job street - there are always posts under agricultur/plantation sector...

If you are not certain, go for the agricultural science 1st. At least it is more diverse.

My personal preference based on my domestic consumption, the trend is more towards healthy and sustainable living on almost all aspect.

Some ppl are doing aquaponic - mixture of aquaculture and hydroponic farming. If the method is workable, then only you decide what you wanted to grow & rear?

I suggest look for the product with high value not price controlled items.

Aquaculture = shrimps, abalone, jade perch , snake head fish, goby marble, grass eel (Japanese & Taiwanese F&B market)
Hydroponic = lettuces, tomatoes, chilies, etc

There was one video on river farming at Vietnam, they grows paddy on the floated platform.

Indoor farming using the LED lights in the enclosed space also another thing to explore, we got so many abandoned building in the country.
