Hello everyone

My Acer Nitro 5 CPU burned and need replacing. I got a quotation for SRH84 for around RM 1,400.

It seems high. Can you please recommend an honest and cheaper service center in Kuala Lumpur that can fix it for cheaper?

Thanks!

If 1400 might as well just buy a new motherboard from aliexpress

well, the common way of assessing the worth of repair is usually:
1. if repair cost > half of initial purchase cost, then not worth
2. if item cannot be replaced for any reasons, then maybe worth the repair cost that is within means; each to their own

so at the end, it's still up to you. for standard/common laptops, usually damage at the CPU/MB/GPU/screen level is not worth repair, especially if the item is > 5yr old...

That's quite normal for a whole motherboard replacement
Burnt CPU means the whole motherboard is unsalvageable as all laptop nowadays comes with the CPU soldered to the motherboard unlike the old days where you can just replace the CPU because it's socketed instead of soldered

As other have suggested, save your money for a new laptop instead
Motherboard replacement will only get you an additional 1 ~ 3 months warranty from the shop whereas compared to a new laptop, you will get between 1 to 5 year of manufacturer's warranty depending on what model you buy and which warranty you subscribe to

Laptops usually have a lot of temperature failsafes to prevent overheat damages, so how da heck did you burn that CPU?! shocking.gif

Well anyhow to rescue ur situation, just to confirm if ur CPU is BGA as below?

If yes,
it can be a very expensive replacement

or a not so expensive one, if you know someone who has BGA soldering gear

The CPU is basically the heart of the system, as such if it goes its not cheap
Plus, BGA rework requires skill, and of course that comes at a cost

with that said, there are probably many parts that could be saved, such as the ram, ssd, display (can convert into external monitor)

Who quoted you ?
From my experience, Acer laptop repair are consider the cheapest.
If I were you, I will bring that laptop , go to Highpoint in Subang Glenmarie. I have good experience sending my dead Acer laptop there even after warranty ends.

If this is the case , if i were u, just give up on the laptop and get another unit. For that price , its just not worth it since u have a quad core CPU. Get something with at least 6 CPU cores these days.
I looked at the price of your CPU on Aliexpress , definitely not worth it.
