I meant the engine & gearbox. Can be whacked & still won't easily break down. The body is heavy so mpg is not too good. But I live in Seremban & rarely drive out. Mostly out & about on my bike so things are still highly practical for me.

RM5k difference won't effect previous buyer as it's not a huge price cut anyway

Second hand price low not because of proton itself, other manufacturers from china flooded the market with attractive price with premium stuff

So you mean because China car brands like BYD, Chery, Jaecoo, and GWM are flooding the market with premium specs (like 360 cameras, sunroofs, and advanced safety tech) at such low prices, it creates a 'used car trap'?

But does honda, toyota, nissan, mazda malaysia second hand market kena affected?

Here what's the google ai mentioned

Used car prices in Malaysia are dropping due to aggressive new car price wars, with massive discounts on EVs and popular models. Buyers increasingly face tightened loan approvals and economic uncertainty. Consequently, inventory has surged, pushing used values down as they adjust for overinflated previous years.Used car values are depreciating across the Malaysian market for several key reasons:New Car Price Wars: Aggressive pricing from Chinese brands (e.g., BYD, Chery, Zeekr) and heavy rebates from legacy makers (e.g., Honda, Tesla) have made new cars more affordable. This has forced older, used models to adjust downward in value to remain competitive.Shifting EV Policies: The expiry of prior tax exemptions for EVs has caused demand to fluctuate. Combined with new road tax structures, the resale values of older EVs and imported models have seen significant corrections.Stricter Financing: With higher living costs and more stringent loan approvals, used car buyers are highly value-conscious. Dealerships are facing inventory losses, which has resulted in steeper discounts for buyers.Calculation of Car Loans: The transition to the reducing balance method for car loans in Malaysia has given buyers more leverage, changing how depreciation and loan interest are calculated.
