Hello all. I am with this company less than a year. It is a sales company, and i am working as product management/sales/marketing. My boss is a highly successful sales person (at least from the looks of it), and seems like he has his own expectation.
This boss seems to prefer communicate through email, and very curt or direct in his email. Like ‘you knowledge is not up to standard based on your role’, and he give out critics very frequently. Even in email when he is in cc, anything that doesnt match to his expectations, he will msg us directly to critic/point out his thoughts. It is sometimes to an extend i find it micromanaging. And he never gives acknowledgment when it is due. Basically, i find him full of negativity? Am i the problem here expecting my boss to be at least slight motivating instead of keep criticising?
Appreciate your input here.
Reality check - that's a common characteristic of bosses. Its better than them nagging all the way, on and on. So take note of what he pointed out you did wrong, then improve on that. When he sees that you no longer commit the same mistake, he'll stop pointing out. If he wanted something done - even if its small - comply and get it done immediately. Problem solved.
Different bosses has different style in managing. The boss won't change to accommodate anyone, so observe, adapt and earn your acknowledgment.
In the worst case scenario if this is unbearable - you can't change your boss, but you CAN change boss. Just make sure you have the means of survival/ backup in job transition. There's also no guarantee your next boss will be any better.
