Hi everyone, recently I am kinda in bottleneck and dilemma situation in my career where to stay in my curreent job or jump to next job.

Current job:
Been working here for 8 years since 2015. So far package and benefit wise are good, flexi working hour, allow to work remotely 4 days out of 5 days per week, management does not micromanage, colleague are ok. Although I am familiar with what i have to do in my job, work laod is not heavy (can snake occassionaly), but i have lost my interest and motivation to do the work, meaningless most of the time. The job scope is not what I like and it stressed me up alot because sometimes time I have to handdle sudden issues happen and need to squeeze my brain juice and try to solve it which sometime really out of my control. Plus recently my only senior team member is leaving this end Oct, all his work will be passed to me, and his works are alot of mess which I am very unwillingly to take over his job. Company is hiring new guy to sopport me but it will happen only next Jan. In addition, I asked myself even I stay and get promoted and increment, which will be happend once after my senior left (increment 13.7%), I has no plan to work long term in this company as well.

New job offer:
A totally different industry of my current job. An industry which I am relatively interested in. Salary is same to my current job before the increment, considering I have zero knowledge in this new industry, I think this is acceptable. Benefit is slightly lesser than current job. no more working remotely, and will required to work longer hours and outstation compared to current job. Expecting this new job is going to be quite challenging to me as well since this is a new industry to me, I have to pick up and learn very quick. As what I searched online, the working atmosphere and colleague in this new company is good and motivating. in addition, this industry is foreseen to be a blooming industry in near future.

Currently I am tending to new job. But some ppl around me would say Im too naive and wasted not choosing to stay for increment, promotion and flexi working but go for new industry which has so much uncertainties. I have no idea if I could cope for new job but I am quite mentally suffering staying in current job, just think to escape now. I told myself if i go for new job, it would be stressful as well, and I need to mentally suffering for certain of period with all the new things, but at least it is something im more interested in and hopefully could keep my passion of it for long term, and looking forward this industry could reallt bring me prospect in future.

Not considering commitment, family or any other factors.
IF you were me, how will u choose and why? Thank you.

my opinion to you is stay your current work. Me myself has almost same situation with your current job. Already work with same company more than 10 years with same position. feel like right now i am in my comfort zone.

for me it is hard to has same situation if i go find new job. plus current economy seems so much uncertainties.

"Outside people" they're not you so no one can fully understand the challenge and mental drain you're facing in current workplace. My opinion of leaving:

1. If you find it absolutely intolerable and suffering by waking up each day to work, dragging yourself to office/ start work
2. Its causing you mental health distress
3. You have sufficient funds to last you min 6 months to a year (in case you couldn't get employed in a short period)

#3 is important because the new job may be real stressful, and you're not prepared to handle that level of work. So you may end up quitting after a month or two.

Global recession is real, and the market is really competitive. There's a lot of instability and most people are not keen to leave at this juncture.

But with all these aside, its hard to give the "best" advice. I can only say, if you're someone with high perseverance, fine with long hours work, stressful environment or harsh bosses (for example, just imagining the worst case scenario) then you're all good to explore.

Since you find yourself in a deadlocked situation - why continue to stay on? Find meaning in your work. There are so many industries, and there are millions of companies out there. You'll find somewhere with the right job fit.

Expect the worst, strive for the best.

Not worth the jump. From what you described, you just not feel exciting or motivating anymore + stress occasionally..not total burnt out that affecting your mental. So for me just stay at current, after increment & bonus next year start to apply other jobs until you get something worth (more increment + better benefits) to jump over.

Hmmm...

Very hard decision to be made...

Personally... Looking at what u wrote & feels...

I think, u better off stay at current place... Temporary first...
The situation out there is not really good now...

Still want to jump, your choice
But if new place not happy & resign... Probably hard to get job fast.... Like I said... Situation not looking good...

You must tell us, do you have family to support? Having family is a very important factor you must consider.

If yes, then you seriously must re-consider to leave. If you lose your job, what is your insurance? Can your wife support the family? do you have enough savings to lasts how long?

If no, you also must consider your savings can lasts how long. If you are single, I think you really should take up this role. If you have no issue with taking care of elderly parents or have huge loan commitments.

Nowadays a lot of economic uncertainty, I have current colleagues who left the company thinking that they have greenier pastures but they were wrong. Instead they are struggling there now. I even know of one GM, he joined my company, then 6 months later, he couldn't get along iwth my big boss, and he wasn't confirmed.

TS, I think if you are good, opportunities like this will come. I am also like you, I am doing a job that I found boring but I am getting more comfortable. I am going to become even more comfortable, when co introduce 3d WFH concept. I have a job offer outside, but I am considering whether to leave or not since i have family to support.

But while doing my job, during my spare time, I am actually studying for my dream job. Just like you, I am afraid if I took up that offer, whether I could keep up or not. THat's why I am studying for it. I hope you can do the same as well.

So if you think you are not ready, its up to you not to take up. But you can still study and research until you feel you are ready and can try it out in the market again.
