Nowdays no more trend for japanese style shops like jogoya and sho gun, also korean maciem soul garden a bit quiet. Many hotels also not having buffet if it is low season. Last time can see almost every hotel got buffet dinner. Now no. Where do you like to go for buffet dinners?

nowadays buffet target market is malay consumers.

cinis buffet market are long gone.
those sunway buffet rebut jiken wings, jogoya rebut haagen daz, snow crab, porridge/cheese leleh/satay steamboat buffet and other fancy free flow salmon fish sushi buffet tak laku d.

when it comes to calculating value, the cinis will compare every detail. it is not worthy going for buffet if it's rm35-40 above, and that must feature at least 2-3 expensive stuffs like crab, big ass prawns, sashimi, haagen daaz etc.

if you have more than 4 person going for buffet, it's not worth it, as most restaurants can serve u heck of a meal for RM40x4.

Nowadays I don't go to high end buffet anymore. Max I would do is 130/pax for weekend dinner. Which are mainly midrange hotels.

The one I particularly like in this range is Mardhiyyah Hotel in Shah Alam. Always exceeding expectation for its asking price, despite promoting Islamic theme of no babi or anything haram.
People would think Islamic hospitality service must be dull and boring. But this one is quite a surprise.

yeah. motivation to go buffet change as you get older.

Buffet before 30s: Get to eat whatever to fullest until cannot breathe, for one cheap price.

Buffet after 30s: That simple feel good of getting to taste large variety of fancy foods in short time.

so far Sukiya and Sukishi I haven't met with any disappointment, Sukishi have unlimited pork slices, little prawns(imo not that nice), and fried teriyaki chicken wings for a few ringgit more than Sukiya's pricing.

I went to MyTown/Sunway velocity branch. Sukishi is the non-halal version of Sukiya

There is simply too much food at buffets.
I stopped going to any buffet once I hit 40.

Even recently I went to Cameron and ate one of the steamboat dinner set, it was too much.
Set meal, not buffet.
Luckily most of the food in the set are vegetables.
For a set meal for 2 pax, they gave around 7 to 8 plates of food!!!
2 plates has meat and the rest was vegetables.

Struggling to finish really.

Buffet places only worth going when its newly opened.

As time goes on, they can't maintain the quality, so you'll see them cut down on offerings; then you know they going to gg soon.

I generally don't go to buffets because you tend to get subpar food for the price you're paying. Only worth going if you haven't eaten for 3 days and want to fill yourself up for the next week.

Yes it should be either new or has a consistent stream of patrons. But nowdays even the usual hotels do not offer buffet when they dont have bookings. Unlike last time it is standard offering even for walkins.

Even with consistent stream of patrons, its not really worth it. The operator will definitely reduce cost over time cause its not sustainable.

The buffet business model is fundamentally flawed. You need to offer enough high value items to entice people, but also have enough interesting low value items that people will take instead. All the while managing the inventory to make sure it doesn't go to waste. Finding that balance is incredibly difficult.

The waning of hotel buffets kinda indicate that rising food costs coupled with reduced spending power were the reasons. The golden years of buffets were the 90s when maresia under atok was really prosperous. Good old days.

The waning of hotel buffets kinda indicate that rising food costs coupled with reduced spending power were the reasons. The golden years of buffets were the 90s when maresia under atok was really prosperous. Good old days.

Waning? Are you sure? I didn't notice any waning during the last Ramadhan period with all the hotel buffets full house.
