Starting a YouTube channel is definitely a long-term gig, but it's super rewarding if you're into it. I started my own cooking channel a while back, and yeah, it's a lot of work, especially the editing part. With your laptop specs, you should be okay for editing 1080p videos at the start. I began with a similar setup and managed just fine. Sure, it wasn't the fastest, but it got the job done.
About boosting your channel at the start, I actually tried to buy youtube views once. It gave my channel a little jumpstart. It's like a quick way to get your videos out there when nobody knows you yet. Just keep making great content, and the real viewers will stick around.
