No, solar panels are above the tiles. Rain water will flow in from the uncovered parts higher than the solar panel, so you still need those tiles.

water proof solar panels a little tricky. most installer pretty bad (ie will leak after installation). some are good. ask them what type of bracket and system they use.

i am using solarvest - pls dont go with them... they cut corners here and there
nightmare to deal with them

the only good thing is they never chase u to make payment
what is bad about them:
1. workmanship very bad as they outsource to 3rd party installer then the 3rd party installer further outsource it
2. due to multi tier outsourcing u need to talk to 3 different ppl from different company to get things fix
3. the db box provided by them is worst than the one we seen in low cost apartment and it is so small - if u want to upgrade in the future it wont work
4. ask them about string vs micro - they say they dont like micro only do string
5. after sales - sucks to the max as never really answer question, ask them question have to wait 3 days baru respond

conclusion - dont go with solarvest
