I got two friends living at close vicinity with solar panels installed.

11.5kw and 6.4kw.

Both string inverter

April TNB bill shows 890kwh and 396kwh respectively

And this figure appear to be peak of what their system is producing.

Is this considered ok?

Too low, mine is 11.7kw but generate much higher kwh. I think yours is net after daily consumption.

Yeah I agree it's pretty low.

What type of inverter are you using?

On topic of Off-Grid solar + battery set up.

Assuming I have total of total 4kwh consumption a day, peak power draw of 0.5kw during equipment power up.

My calculation says I would need:
1. 100AH battery
2. 2 x 500w solar panel

If I throw in 50% DOD (Depth of Discharge), that makes it 150AH battery required.

Is my calculation about right?

Or 100ah is actually enough because during day time usage, most of the time the 2 solar panel will be powering the equipment and charging the battery.

There's diesel generation running 12 hours everyday so effectively the battery will get recharged with the generator power.

Guys, I was going thru the comparison among String, String+Optimizers (not so popular here) & Micro Inverters. All have their pros and cons. What will be the best options to decide which one should I go with?
For the string, i am getting mixed info from reading & youtubing, some say there is christmas light effect, water hose effect etc which can hugely impact overall power generated to the inverters due to shading, while some debunked the statement. Anybody have experienced on it?
Also, with our Malaysia taman house (where there are no trees), does micro-inverter option make sense? Or should I just with higher kWp with string instead? Still undecided on the system 😟.

You are over thinking.

Both string and micro works.

Both will deteriorate too come 10 years.

Micro cost more, it's the real reason many procrastinate buying this while knowing it's benefit over string. Everyone try to justify till cow come home.

String cost less, users often justify it being able to install battery after 10 years... yada yada yada.
Micro also can install battery lah... what's that 10% loss in conversion rate compared to string if battery price is falling constantly.

In my simple mind, those try so hard to justify paying more for micro inverters are simply kiamsiap pro max.

Just go with what you fancy as long as you don't have shading issue.

To each their own, whatever way it is, installing solar is no brainer  biggrin.gif

Any NEM users here install additional solar panels?
