Hi k/
I installed solar panel for my house 4 months ago. Total cost RM47000 for 26 pcs. Don't know the detail much cos not important to me. All i know is they write Jinko solar 550wp.
So far my average bill from RM800+ reduce to RM40-50. That's a whooping 20% return p.a
Isn't it too good to be true investment? What am i missing? why still not many ppl installing the solar since potential return so damn 7 good. Even EPF give guaranteed 5% only. FD is even lower.
FAQ

1) maintenance and repair
- warranty 12 years for defect. 25 years performance.
- 3 years workmanship, roof leak wire short etc.
- cleaning every few years. They say Rm1000
2) NEM
- 10 years. After that see government want give new NEM or not.
- If no more NEM then need to buy battery to store excess energy for night consumption. RM10k -20k konon. I calculated the amount i saved after ROI is more than enough to cover battery cost. safe to say "confirm no rugi"
3) wadapak RM800 bill. how??
- i honestly dunno.
- 6 ppl household. 3 biji aircon every night until morning.
4) Not everyone have RM800 bill. And not everyone have 47k
- no shit dude. Mine is just an example. If your bill RM400 you only need 25k (i guess) setup. Based on my calculation RM400 to RM1000 is the sweetest spot to install solar to reap full benefit.
5) Installation process.
- first talk to the supplier. they will come use drone check your roof. Then they propose how many can sumbat up there, and quote u a price.
- once deposite paid they start do all the paperwork for u. Apply SEDA apply NEM etc. You just sit back goyang kaki. Let them know once it got approved. You will receive sms.
- After NEM approved. They will schedule to unload all the stuff to your house. Then send a team to pasang. Max they need 3 days total. My neighbor 1 day kautim.
- Once they are done they will inform TNB "activate". TNB will change your meter to digital meter if havent. If already change prior to this they will just inform u kautim so u can turn on the solar system to reap the benefit.
- all in all whole process took me 2 months.
6) Why do it?
- I always wanted to install solar since 2010 when they first roll out the energy buyback thing. I still noob fresh grad at that time and i worry a lot about the usual question we all have which is maintenance and deterioration rate. In the end i opted to not do it but I have relatives who installed it back in 2010. Both of them told me they never do any maintenance. Just sometimes hire some foreigner climb on top to wipe it clean. Both of them energy generation still 90%+ or no change after 10 years. Surveying among my friend all who installed 100% say no regret.
7) How do u feel after installation?
- each time bill come less than RM50 i get mini orgasm.
- Everytime i see hot day i feel better knowing the sun generating $$$ for me.
- Less guilty when use aircon. Day time aircon is even more valuable now.
8) ROI is not exactly 5 years since the 47k become a part of your house.
- True. But i am confident i going to stay there for the next 20 years so it's okay.
- the only risk i have is housefire and natural disaster destroying my home. But if it really happens the 47k is the least of my worry.
- So all in all this is the type of "investment" you take if u know u not going to shift, and u know u not going to touch the $$$ for the next 10 years. I compare it to EPF since i contribute most of my savings there.
