PG replaced my Fox ESS inverter today. hope this one doesn't break so soon too, if break again, then it kinda speaks itself about the quality of this brand  sweat.gif
since it's a new inverter, on the Fox phone app i can't view last month's readings since that was on the old inverter. shame.

my August TNB bill is not bad, non-TOU here, totaling to RM25.80.
Import: 558kWh
Export: 477kWh

How many days downtime? I read that other brand SAJ something also have many problem. I guess this fox and saj brand is basically cheaper inverter right?

But I afraid the solar panel might damaged and maybe it's even more expensive to repair compare to the roof.

Solar PV Insurance, got some info in facebook that the price is pretty cheap.

I am not considering the solar insurance for myself since it under the responsibility of emit solar for the next 10 years

if i'm using a string inverter at the moment, how difficult is it to modify it to self-consumption with battery storage in the future?
*
I am assuming your inverter is hybrid type. Need to install ct meter and ensure the inverter has the option for ZERO Export

Mine is already equipped with this meter and ready to change to zero export at the end of nem 3.0

.
Under NEM3.0, a 7kW roof solar panel system produces about 800kWh of electricity per month = saves about RM400 in monthly TNB bill for a home that runs 3 aircons nightly and/or charges an EV car overnight weekly, ie 800kWh X RM0.50.

Under the coming ATAP1.0 (from 1 Dec 2025), a similar home as above will save only about RM168 in monthly TNB bill, ie 800kWh X RM0.21.
....... ROI  from paying for a 7kW solar system = about RM20k, will be about 10 years, ie  RM20,000/RM168 X 12 = 9.9 years = not quite worth it.

Correct.?
.

The idea is if the solar provider want to survive , they have to adjust their pricing to reflect the current ATAP scheme, you cant assume the solar pv provider to maintain at the same price as the previous NEM

First thing to do now is to install a power meter with data logging. After checking your hourly usage, you know your house hourly electricity usage and day-night use distribution. Then, you can size your solar and BESS accordingly.

Something to take note:

Energy import and export are calculated separately for each phase, not as a combined total across all three phases.

Example:

Phase A consumes 3 kWh

Phase B generates 2 kWh

Phase C generates 2 kWh
This is not treated as a net export of 1 kWh (3 − 2 − 2 = −1 kWh) ❌.
Instead, TNB records it as 3 kWh imported and 4 kWh exported ✅ — calculated per phase.

These values are then accumulated over the month and reflected in the billing cycle.

Half hourly consumption is available in mytnb website but of course not in real time, but you get the historical data there

As to minimize the issue of importing in one phase but exporting in the other, this is where the inverter with load balancing feature play a significant role. It can be optimized to prioritize self consumption. I am mainly using only phase A and sometime phase b and c except when i charge my ev using a 3 phase charger

The system always prioritize self consumption and adjust the output on each phase based on demand. The graph above is showing current output from the inverter itself.

The graph below shows when there almost zero usage except for the fridge and some small consumption from multiple cctv and ups
All output spread evenly among 3 phases

Which Huawei inverter model you are using?

user posted image

Did you install the Huawei power meter together?
*
Huawei sun2000-8k-mapo coming with compatible ct meter that can communicate with huawei inverter

The system optimizes self consumption based on demand and also to run zero export rule if required

My installer says the power meter cost 1.6k.

I saw someone installed diy using chint dtsu66-hw from nem group in fb, iirc it is around rm600(shopee) for 3 phase, should be just a small fee even of you ask electrician to do the wiring.

Btw these are compatible list, but only some model support zero export

Problem is proprietary Luna battery + controller needed, cost a bomb!
*
I understand that, but good thing is , i dont need a battery now. In 10 years when my NEM run out, i would either run on zero export or if huawei battery is cheap enough by that time install a battery or even change the whole inverter(non huawei) and install battery once the inverter breaks down

Thanks for the reference. Since I am NEM, perhaps I want to try to maximise daytime selco rather than export. This load balancing feature seems useful, especially I have an EV charging during day time. Can you share the NEM FB group?
*

Yes, load balancing is good to charge ev using solar panel especially if someone is using a single phase charger but 3 phase inverter. unfortunately single phase output is still capped at 1/3 of max output of inverter

Recheck the calculation on the payback period, it seems the solar installer trying to kencing, no way 10kwp panel can save you rm750 per month
