Interestingly , Both brand's success are stepping on big European brands like VW, Hyundai, Peugeot and Citroen as depicted by Motor1.com QUOTE MG Phenomenon The transition from petrol/diesel cars to pure electric has another big winner: MG. This brand, positioned as British but entirely designed, developed, and produced in China, is the only player from the Asian giant that is truly changing the game. While the MG 4 – its latest introduction in Europe – continues to seduce many consumers thanks to its competitive price and favorable opinions, MG reached the European top 20 in August with almost 14,900 units. This is a higher number than that recorded by Suzuki, Mini, Mazda, or Jeep. Electric models accounted for 59 percent of this volume, placing them in seventh place among the best-selling BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) brands, ahead even of big brands such as Opel, Audi, Skoda, Peugeot, or Renault. CATALIST-LISTED MeGroup has been appointed as a dealer of MG cars in Malaysia, as it winds up its Hyundai dealership. This dealership marks the group’s entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market. MN Automart, a subsidiary of MeGroup’s Malaysian-based unit Menang Nusantara Holdings, will open the dealership in Setia Alam in the state of Selangor, it announced on Monday (Feb 5). The outlet, which will occupy a two-storey semi-detached factory lot at Bandar Bukit Raja, is slated to begin operations on Feb 28. It will provide new car sales, service and spare parts. The initial term for the dealership will be 36 months, with an option to renew for a further 24 months. MN Automart was previously a dealership for Hyundai since 2019, but has ceased those operations since Jan 31. Wong Cheong Chee, executive chairman and CEO of MeGroup, said: “The appointment of the MG dealership marks a significant opportunity for the group to expand our dealership business, and signifies MG’s confidence in our proven track record.” |

Affordable EV from China snatches NZ Car of the Year crown Matthew Hansen Feb 16, 2024, • 02:30pm For the second consecutive year, a fully electric car from China has claimed the Motoring Writer’s Guild’s top prize of New Zealand Car of the Year. The 36th running of the award has gone to the MG4, a popular plug-in that launched locally late last year as one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market. To claim the prize, the MG4 beat nine other finalists chosen by the guild, in the form of the BMW i7, Cupra Born, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Lexus RZ, Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, Nissan X-Trail, Peugeot 308, and Skoda Enyaq. The Motoring Writers’ Guild comprises motoring journalists from all over the country, and includes Stuff’s Matthew Hansen and Nile Bijoux. Judges conduct real-world testing on each car before rating them according to design, performance, value, and other metrics. Since it launched last September, the MG4 has struck a chord with New Zealand consumers. It was the country’s third most popular EV of 2023, despite only being on sale for four months. Motoring Writer’s Guild president Robert Barry underlined that judges valued, amongst other things, the depth and breadth of the MG4 line-up — starting with the entry-level $46,990 51kWh Excite, extending to the $63,990 long-range 77kWh model with its 530km of range. The line-up tops out with the all-wheel drive, dual-motor MG4 XPower hot hatch, which is capable of hitting 100kph in just 3.8 seconds. It is the fifth EV to win the award, following on from the BYD Atto 3, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Mercedes-Benz EQC, and Jaguar I-Pace. “Even before the extraordinarily powerful flagship version arrived, the MG4 was making waves here, not only amongst the buying public but also amongst the country’s professional motoring journalists,” said Barry. “As far as the MG brand is concerned, this model has ushered in a new era of fully contemporary design, on the company’s first all-electric vehicle platform, and with leading-edge battery technology that gives 77kWh battery version in particular an outstanding real-world range. “We have all admired the design, technology, and practicality of the MG4, but how it drives has also impressed the motoring writers. Part of its dynamic charm comes from the mainstream variants being rear rather than front-drive; this combines with the low centre of gravity and excellent weight distribution achieved by the positioning of its battery to give a crisp handling balance.” MG New Zealand Country Manager Arek Zywot said that the brand is “deeply honoured” to receive the award, adding that it is “a great recognition of our hard work and dedication to creating the best product on the market.” “[The MG4 is] a groundbreaking new model for the MG marque and is indicative of the future direction of attainable, electrified motoring. It has proven itself on the world stage as an international multi-award-winning model and it is now receiving similar accolades here in New Zealand,” said Zywot. “I challenge anyone who thinks electric vehicles are boring to take a drive in the MG4, I know it can change opinions and certainly made a positive impression on Guild members across the country.” - Stuff |

QUOTE(SportyHandling @ Mar 2 2024, 08:50 AM) Yes nothing is confirmed. But, by referring to what Anthony Loke said to the press, last year Nvember , I don't think he can go against his wordsQUOTE "We did a study on the road tax (charges), and we have tabled it to the EV Task Force for a more affordable tax. "We will announce the road tax structure before the end of the year, which will only come into effect after the tax exemption period ends in 2025 unless the Finance Ministry wants to extend it," he said during a press conference here on Monday (Nov 6). Loke said the government wants to ensure that the new EV road tax charges will be competitive and not burdensome to encourage more people to switch to EVs. "There are fewer than 10,000 EVs on the road nationwide. It's not easy to shift from conventional (vehicles) to EVs. "We want to encourage more people to use EVs, but we need a proper ecosystem to make this happen, such as having more charging stations. All this requires time and continuous efforts," he said. Source:https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2023/11/06/new-ev-road-tax-rate-only-after-exemption-period-ends-says-loke We will wait and see for sure This post has been edited by EnergyAnalyst: Mar 2 2024, 03:25 PM |

https://www.carthrottle.com/reviews/mg4-xpo...fm-not-much-fun So maybe we need not think about getting X Power but go for the MG4 Lux from RM129,000. MG4 Lux Extended Range from RM 149,000. lowpro liked this post

The MG 4 standard really don't have a normal reverse camera? I know the rest has 360 camera. Would be perfect if the standard has reverse camera plus blind spot. lowpro liked this post

QUOTE(dwRK @ Mar 26 2024, 09:04 PM) Yeah, the Lux won't bring a lot of range onto the table because the battery is NMC which are recommended to charge up to 80% only. If charge once in a while for long trip is okay but if frequently charge will reduce the lifespan of the battery quickly. The LFP on the standard version can be charged to 100%. |

This model is 5 stars Euro ncap certified, and with rear multi link suspension.
Wonder why SAIC does not promote these 2 significant features heavily here? Hmmm... |

QUOTE(hjack @ Mar 27 2024, 02:23 PM) This model is 5 stars Euro ncap certified, and with rear multi link suspension. I think we may want to wait for more meaningful ASEAN NCAP of which MG ZS has actually but it has been in ASEAN quite long Wonder why SAIC does not promote these 2 significant features heavily here? Hmmm... https://www.zigwheels.my/car-news/mg-zs-saf...d-by-asean-ncap I actually don't find it that strange, Tesla don't advertise their Euro NCAP score , neither would BYD , why would MG want to do any thing different as we are certainly not Euro Markets here. As for the rear multi link, Hyundai Kona Electric has it, Chery Omoda E5 has it, BYD Dolphin has it if buying the extended range (BYD entry trim is torsion beam), BYD Atto 3 has it, making it only winning over it's own MG ZS, Ora Good Cat and Neta V, I don't know about you but I think it is hardly a unique selling point (USP) |

Went for a test drive in Melaka and made a booking for silver standard... Good value as first ev and especially for my use which is 95% melaka town.. My Ativa monthly petrol bill around RM250 for 1.6-1.8k km... Estimate home charging around 300kwh which should cost RM150....RM 100 saving which should increase another RM150 when they remove the subsidy... Not much.. But it drives so much better than the Ativa... Always wanted rwd... Nice that Malaysian model comes with rear wiper and grab handles so the Mrs is happy.... Bummer that side mirrors can't fold... Kumho tyres... The other 18" get continental.. Need decent tinting since inside all black.... Other models at least get privacy glass... But overall great value... Saw first unit delivered to customer yesterday... Silver lux..

To be able to get an additional 1000km is really something.Anyway congratulations on the new MG4. It does look like the best value EV with regard to looks and performance. The exterior of the mg4 looks better than other EVs in the same segment such as Byd Atto/Dolphin. |

best is go test drive it yourself 1st... then you have an unbiased 1st impression... by all means follow up with watching/reading reviews... and go for 2nd or more test drive to see if anything is a deal breaker... cars from different batch and different countries may be spec slightly differently hence some of the review comments are invalid... also reviewers can be bias... lowpro liked this post

QUOTE(judesh @ Apr 20 2024, 07:01 AM) Bro... Did they tell you get free wall charger only if register car by 30th April? I paid booking fee on 9th April and until now SA cannot tell when can get car or if qualify for the free wall charger... What's stopping them from delivering your car on 1st May just so that no need give you the free wall charger.. i book before launching... at the time sa no idea got any freebies or notCrap.. I'll cancel if they do this.. after launching sa says first 200 cars only... but papers say book before 30th... didn't ask more because irrelevant to me sa says they targeting volume sales... so trying to push as many cars out as possible... so i doubt they try to cheat you out of a wallbox... because car very popular everywhere, and is cbu... later bookings hard to confirm when to get allocation... anyways wb given by mg... best call mg to find out lor... they try to relaunch the brand here and opening more and more showrooms... i think they will honor the wb... QUOTE(andrewtho @ Apr 15 2024, 10:47 PM) i wonder if the Lux variant is worth getting as a day to day car - the range of 400+km seems acceptable over the Extended version that cost a fair bit more It depends on your day to day range requirement. For me, I will conservatively knock off 20% of whatever range WLTP range it is Not because I don't trust WLTP but I will need to charge when it is near 20% remaining to keep the battery healthy, practising charging of 20% to 80% So for me, I will look at if standard 350km -20% I.e.280km leaving as the bare baseline of whether it fits my requirement. If I want to be even more conservative, I will leave 210 km as usable range because of other factors like Battery degradation and just for the sake or taking care of the battery and not to charge it beyond 80% Hope this opinion of mine helps |

Anyone knows if the standard didn't come with the 7" MID, what they put there instead?
Edit: It's included but not sure why their comparison table on their website stated not included. This post has been edited by contagiouseddie: Apr 23 2024, 04:06 PM |

So guys,
Car came yesterday 2pm and when I we went to check, found a small dent the size of 20 sen coin on the front left fender... So pretty disappointed... They say will send to get it repaired but not sure if they will get the colour right... Puspakom inspection Friday afternoon so JPJ registration on Monday... Now keep asking me pay balance... Should they get the dent repaired first before asking me to pay the balance... Or maybe I should retain say1k until they get it repaired? All in all, really sad experience.... Can I cancel the order even though car is already here? |

Received my silver standard on Tuesday 30 April, charged to 100% with the Autel wallbox on Thursday night.... Friday morning travelled 170km Melaka to Eco Ardence to install tint... Used ACC 105-110kmh mostly... Arrived with 53% charge remaining.. Top up at Eco Ardence chargev dc charger to 75% before returning to Melaka... So... 1. Range 350km on highway if you keep to 110kmh 2. ACC better implementation than the Ativa... Because of the almost instant acceleration... Easier to change to fast lane... ACC Will continue even after coming to complete stop... Ativa ACC deactivates below 30kmh...sorry can only compare to my previous car. 3. Coming from ICE, charging was quite easy using the chargev app..... Just plug in the cable, press the start charging button on the app... Stop also on app.. Received invoice almost immediately.. Was worried because it was drizzling but all OK even though no cover.. Now keep finding excuse to drive the car... ![]() ![]() gobiomani, wilson1stop, and 3 others liked this post

QUOTE(judesh @ May 4 2024, 12:17 PM) Received my silver standard on Tuesday 30 April, charged to 100% with the Autel wallbox on Thursday night.... Friday morning travelled 170km Melaka to Eco Ardence to install tint... Used ACC 105-110kmh mostly... Arrived with 53% charge remaining.. Top up at Eco Ardence chargev dc charger to 75% before returning to Melaka... Thanks for the report, if only Anthony Loke can quickly clear the air on EV road tax soon.So... ![]() ![]() |

https://cnevpost.com/2024/05/06/local-chine...-sales-q1-2024/ SAIC (parent of MG) topping Chinese cars overaseas sales in Q1 2024. their New Energy Vehicl is second placing after BYD QUOTE China's local auto brands saw decent overseas sales growth in the first quarter, as the number of cars exported from the world's largest car market remained strong. In the first quarter, local auto brands sold 470,000 units overseas, up 40 percent from a year earlier, Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, said in a May 4 article. Including foreign brands, 1.32 million vehicles were exported from China in the first quarter, up 23 percent from a year earlier. That means local brands contributed 35.6 percent of China's auto exports in the first quarter. SAIC, Chery, Great Wall Motor and BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) were the top exporting Chinese automakers. SAIC sold 126,053 units overseas in the first quarter, contributing 26.8 percent of the local brand's car exports, according to data shared by Cui. Chery contributed 25 percent at 117,719, Great Wall Motor contributed 16.6 percent at 77,935, and BYD contributed 11 percent at 51,138, according to Cui. Among the new car makers, Neta Auto sold 2,985 units overseas in the first quarter, Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) 1,783 units, Nio (NYSE: NIO) 388 units and Leapmotor 271 units. In terms of overseas new energy vehicle (NEV) sales, BYD, SAIC, Geely, and Great Wall Motor were the major contributors, selling 47,238, 31,018, and 13,384 units overseas in the first quarter, respectively. The value of Chinese NEVs exported in the first quarter was $11.1 billion, up 18 percent year-on-year, according to Cui. As a comparison, China's exports of all vehicles in the first quarter amounted to $25.2 billion, up 18 percent year-on-year. Europe and Asia were the main export destinations for China's homegrown carmakers, contributing 216,000 and 121,000 units, respectively, in the first quarter. Local Chinese brands sold 56,000 units in South America and 32,000 units in North America in the first quarter. lowpro liked this post

Managed to get the TnG 50? did a test drive but SA didnt mentioned about the TnG50 Test drive wise.. personally 1. it is a compact car, some more rear wheel.. love it whenever I exit a corner..hehehe Test drive model Lux Extended. 2. In comparison, i prefer MG4 over dolphin/atto3/Good cat but because it is a compact. Small boot, lack of rear aircon, no rear center arm-rest, the center screen bit slow and delay (need to press the icon few times). Other than that, well equip car for the price. 3. kinda disappoint MG ZS EV only mid-spec variant saja available.. while MG4 4 variants. Now waiting for Neta X and L to test and compare with max_cavalera, EnergyAnalyst, and 2 others liked this post

QUOTE(zenix @ May 20 2024, 08:44 PM) Yes they could be pest like but it is a public road, so we are bound to see a lot of these kind of pests Let me share you with you a metaphor https://lifeaction.org/the-eagle-and-the-crow/ QUOTE “The only bird that dares to peck an eagle is the crow. The crow sits on the eagle’s back and bites its neck. The eagle does not respond or fight with the crow; it does not spend time or energy on the crow. Instead, it opens its wings and rises higher in the heavens. The higher the flight, the harder it is for the crow to breathe, and eventually, the crow falls off due to a lack of oxygen. Learn from the eagle, and don’t fight the crows; keep ascending. They might be along for the ride, but they’ll soon fall off. Do not allow yourself to succumb to the distractions; keep your focus on the things above and continue rising!” – Source Unknown lowpro liked this post

Those of you who want to test out the MG4 LUX, you can do so at the dealers. I think all dealers already have test drive cars. I tried out the LUX on LDP yesterday from MG Damansara...very, very nice drive. Both for standing start and rolling acceleration. Also tried the XPower at the MAEPS event but not enough real world road situation to try it but acceleration was manic too.
Any of you guys also tested it? What's your experience like and where did you test it? |

QUOTE(dwRK @ Jul 20 2024, 09:45 AM) https://soyacincau.com/2024/07/14/malaysia-...-jpj-june-2024/Latest June 2024 is already out. You should feel less lonely now MG4 now is #7 for the month beating GWM Ora and Smart#1 But YTD 2024 is still #9 Not bad considering MG4 starts late at Q2 2024 i. e. Only 3 months comparing to those two that started selling much earlier I think if it can beat just Omoda E5 before the year closes , it may already have quite a reason for a small celebration. However, it would still have a major hurdrl to crack top 5 spots due to overwhelming staying power of Teslas and BYDs This post has been edited by EnergyAnalyst: Jul 20 2024, 06:52 PM |

Quite surprising that the MG4 is not selling that well in Malaysia, only 70+ units per month. Since its the most complete EV at the RM100k mark, I expected it to sell quite well. Maybe because most people are not familiar with the MG brand? Or they feel that the range of the MG4 standard is too low? Even the Dolphin is selling better. I think MG needs to do some pre-reg to get more cars on the road.
Personally I think the lux and extended versions are priced too close to Atto 3 / Omoda E5, need to reduce the price for it to compete better. The premium of about RM25k to go from standard to Lux is too high with very few worthwhile upgrade. |

I think to fight Atto 3 or Omoda E5, MG needs to launch New ZS EV fast https://www.team-bhp.com/news/mg-zs-ev-succ...ead-2025-unveil But the latest reports from Paul*an seems to show top EV are actually more balanced portfolio of sporty sedan and SUV Because latest YTD July figures are: No 1 BYD Seal sold 2,062 No 2 BYD Atto 3 sold 1,990 No 3 Tesla Model Y sold 1,794 No 4 Tesla Model.3 sold 1,599 No 5 BYD dolphin sold 1,018 No 6 Chery Omoda E5 sold 429 No 7 Ora good cat+ 07 combined sold 388 No 8 SMART #1 and # 3 sold 340 No 9 MG 4 sold 291 So brands like Chery and MG that have 1 SUV and 1 hatchback and a very dated SUV respectively are losing out a lot of action since both GW ora and SMART has covered at least a combo of hatchback/cross and hatchback cum cross and sedan respectively MG has however more models to come that include a Cyberster and others to follow?! https://autobuzz.my/2024/03/27/mg-cyberster...rst-topless-ev/ So perhaps things will change after those comes in Another thing about MG's interior, I think MG is very Shanghai's and European influenced: modern, stylish but reserved...kind of like Mazda not a bad thing per se because not all buyers prefers shiny flashy things This post has been edited by EnergyAnalyst: Aug 10 2024, 11:27 AM wilson1stop liked this post

Yes, Malaysians prefer flashy interior rather than the driving experience. The MG4 is one of the top 5 sellers in Europe and top EV in UK where as the BYD is no where near. MG EV ZS is to put it out honestly outdated, outspec'd and out priced , For the price it is asking , it often get overshadowed But I like your perspective on the design. Knowing Shanghai, UK guys alone shouldn't take all the responsibility for it but it is what it is. Some observations after 4 mths and 8000km ownership of standard..
Town driving on normal mode gives 14kWh/100km with range of around 360km. OPD bumps this to 12.6 increasing the range to 400km which is pretty good. Highway cruising at 105-110 kmh with ACC gives 15 kWh/100km with 340km range.. Without ACC can get 13.5 increasing range to 380km.. So wltp claim quite accurate |

Should be a standard fitment with blind spot monitoring even for the MG4 Standard, basically as a safety feature...wonder what the product planners were thinking the lux should come spec with 17" and not 18" for more comfortable ride... 18" on the extended range highway focus and xpower is ok... anyways... got stopped again at the grocery... lol... contagiouseddie and gobiomani liked this post

QUOTE(judesh @ Aug 30 2024, 06:37 AM) Some observations after 4 mths and 8000km ownership of standard.. for my std model... 100% soc range about 400kmTown driving on normal mode gives 14kWh/100km with range of around 360km. OPD bumps this to 12.6 increasing the range to 400km which is pretty good. Highway cruising at 105-110 kmh with ACC gives 15 kWh/100km with 340km range.. Without ACC can get 13.5 increasing range to 380km.. So wltp claim quite accurate city about 12.5 kwh/100km... hwy about 14 kwh/100km... i drive early morning and late evening... aircon too cold so manual on off to control hence get a bit better numbers max_cavalera, judesh, and 1 other liked this post

Went for a test drive today finally. Test drove a Lux. I think it's a driver cat. Getting in and out is a bit pain in the ass especially if you are short with your calf kept on hitting the body. Driving the car is fun and the renegerative braking is well calibrated and not causing seasick feeling. ECO mode seems to be the most suitable drive mode for me. But the NVH sitting at the back is really bad coming from driving an Ativa and HRV. It's too noisy and bumpy at the back for our city road. The Lux at 129K, I would expect the interior is be much better than what it is. The UI interface especially the MID is too noisy with text littered all over it. Infotainment unit is too slow as everything needs 2-3 s for it to react. The aircond fan speed can only be control from the UI as the special key on the steering can only be paired to do on-off for the aircond control and a few other driving related stuff. Looks like it was designed by an engineer with the UI development starter kit (I'm an engineer mind you!). The standard would be a great buy with a reverse camera and blind spot but anything more than that RM104K mark would be too pricy for the interior and NVH at the back. Will wait for the next suitable EV! But, outside it is a beautiful car especially in silver color. gobiomani liked this post

QUOTE(gobiomani @ Oct 14 2024, 12:42 PM) Probably same for the Lux variant also. That's because they know what happens if they sell on discounts...they will fall in to a rabbit hole that is very difficult to climb out of.MG seems very reluctant to give discounts even though their sales numbers are quite low. |

Well, at some point they will need to do it anyway or at least do the 1 month long AUD10k discount they did in Australia. Otherwise, they may just go into oblivion as more and more CCP brands come into Malaysia making competition very stiff. max_cavalera liked this post

Problem with Malaysia, always need to plotek interest here and there. Proton already owned by Geely and Perutdua owned by Toyota dee, don't need to claim to plotek national carmaker anymore la, becoz of this plotek mindset during madey time, we cannot enjoy affordable EVs. You want mass adoption but EV cannot sell less than RM100k, what the fugg man?

MG4 is the best selling Chinese EV in Europe and they frighten the EU to import high tariff on it. EU people want MG but their gov scare of MG. Ironically the MG was originally a "British brand" but end up sold to Chinese company and same goes to Volvo EV brand from Sweden but owned by Geely now.

HOHOHO Christmas has come early QUOTE MG4 Standard which was launched in Malaysia for RM103,999 back in March. NOW with a rebate of RM8,500, you can now obtain the electric hatch for just RM95,499. Check out the comparison against others tooOn the other hand, there is also an RM16,000 rebate for the MG4 Lux. So, you can now get your hands on the EV for RM112,999 instead of its original launch price of RM128,999. |
