Im sure everyone had a look at the Apple's iPhone video ads ,and if you watch the ads till the end, this was basically done with the person recorded standing infront of a black drape, simple as that.

What if, someone could come up with the very same idea, but instead of doing it based on what Apple offers via its standard applications on the iPhone, new ads are recorded based on custom 3rd party apps running on the iPhone instead. The persons could talk about the virtues of Summerboard, ApolloIM and countless other 3rd party apps available via Installer.

David Pogue of New York Times does this when embellishing the usefulness of these 3rd party apps in his jailbroken iPhone, but he didnt do it, ala the ads seen in the Apple page. What if someone with the goods (camcorders, preferably high def., studio setup or may not even need a studio, just black drapes, post production easily done via OS X) decides to take this up and does the "alternative" version of these ads? tongue.gif

I also understand the inherent risks when going about this, namely your details and faces exposed to Apple to slap a sue on, tongue.gif, but if that is the case, we could it ala the "iPhone-on-a-black-surface-with-only-your-fingers-showing" kinda look.

Just a thought though. I do have the goods partially (that high-def camcorder i've used on my Florida trips), but i have neither the design senses or the post production savviness.

Bury this topic if it seems ridiculous, it was just a thought.

Hmmm...I'm speechless.

But I think the ad it was shot in the studio. Look at the lighting, if it is outdoor, then the sunlight will illuminate the whole face and body of the person. The ad it is shot at a studio with three lights, two omnis and one normal light.

Just that in the end of the ad..I think it is an outdoor shot, just a signature for every ad.

Hmmmm. Look at Doug, and his "Mankind" ad. The lighting looks like i was done in the street. Bryce's "Delay" ad, with the lighting hitting his rather shiny head on his left, coincide with the last part of his video when he moves out of the black drape frame.

You dont reall need to do it in the street. Weather in New York in which i think where Doug shot his ad, allows for this, since New York sun arent as blinding as what we have here in KL. I agree that the result will be much better in a sudio controlled environment though. But that doesnt allow an impromptu setup like when you wanna do this on the spot, where an iPhone user is currently using his or her iPhone.

Look at the ending of the ad, the black drape are not in flat condition. So, it is really shot in the streets (not the ending), then the background won't be in black flat.

The second paragraph, true.

My college buddies usually do such things...so, it seems like the ending part of the iPhone ads are creative, really creative.

EDIT: One more thing, the street sound. cool2.gif

The raw footage will have all these imperfecions you mention, but with post production, you can make it look like those ads. Crush the blacks, and isolate the dialogue from the ambient noise. Even the speaker could wear a concealed mic. Easy enough, make it green-screen, and slap a different background altogether! laugh.gif It's all in the post production, and since this is an ad, worth between 3-5 minutes long, the post producion period ont be that lengthy.

Ahahah, a fortunate side-effect of all this, glad you could glean something out of this. tongue.gif

Now, to see if this "idea" is worthwhile executing....

=============

Hmmmm..use the very same idea with the Apple stores. Do every Apple product for Apple stores in Malaysia. As our own design materials for them. tongue.gif
