Hi folks,

So for my home reno I engaged a contractor to do almost all the works needed (carpentry, wiring, plumbing) i also engaged them to do spc flooring.

However, unbeknownst to me the spc flooring is from a vendor we chose not to use because of mixed reviews previously.

Their alternative vendor choices don't suit our taste.

Problem is we have already made progress payment.

If we cancel the spc (they belum order lagi), it would leave a deficit of about 2-3k that the company would have to refund to us after deducting the final payment.

Now i know this will be hard to pull off, but do you folks think it's possible to do?

Your contractor is to undertake the 'warranty'. If his vendor screwed up, then he has to settle it. You have the ace card with payment.

Go source your own spc and ask your contractor to install

variation from time to time is normal for home renovation. make sure discussion with the contractor and conversation all black n white.

Might be hard to cancel n take refund, maybe consider just add some renovations on other things, ask the contractor to offset the amount onto the new reno parts, i.e. extra decor, extra furnitures
Suppose contractor will be able to settle the SPC vendor with another potential client in future.

Do people not know how to negotiate anymore? Just let him know you are not keen on those brands and that you opt for the flooring of your choice. Their job is to make the customer happy or alternatively convince you why their option is as good if not superior. There’s no need to skulk around and cucuk belakang.
