I recently moved into a new home, however after only two months, my bathroom door began to swell due to moisture.

What is the best way to prevent it from getting worst?

Many suggest I change to a PVC door, but I don't want it because it feels and looks cheap.

Is there such a thing as a waterproof wooden door that does not swell or rot?

Use this kind of aluminum door for bathroom. Will last longer and more sturdy compared to pvc or plywood door.
Usually, the toilet plywood door will get swollen if not painted at the bottom of the door. You can try to put your phone camera under the door to see if it is painted or not.

I do not like this kind of door because the center is frosted glass, which the light can passthrough.

And yes, the bottom part of the door is not painted. sad.gif

Solid wood door. Merbau wood. Expensive.

Those cheap doors you get from the developers all do this. They are not meant to last.

After VP during defect period did you or your defect inspector check the bottom or edges of the door whether its painted? This usually happens because moisture able to get to the wood due to the part was unpainted.

But as others say, just change to aluminium or folding door. Much more practical in the long term compared to wooden door for toilet

I believe so. Same like material used for outdoor wood-like pavement.

You can go to door shop. There you can find door that is solid but looks like PVC coated. It feel solid like wooden door but probably half the weight. It is high quality PVC with honeycomb internal structure. It is not like normal common PVC door.

I think it is not hard to find shop that sell this type of door. It is even suitable to use as main door. Looks good as well.

If you want to waterproof your door you need to take out your door, completely cover your door with paint except the door knob, then apply 3 layer of polyurethane paint on the entire door except the door knob

This is the most cost effective but time consuming way of your don't want to change the door the polyurethane can provide hard film to resist scratches, and waterproof your door once it is cured even if it is a cheap door

you should have change to non-wooden door instead laugh.gif

what you can do now is to scrape and sand away the damaged part, then you use wood filler to make it look flat again, then paint and apply polyurethane to form a waterproof layer
