Mercantile Point, Sunshine Empire under probe
Published: 2008/04/05

MERCANTILE Point Sdn Bhd and Sunshine Empire Sdn Bhd, and their related companies are under Bank Negara Malaysia investigation for possible illegal deposit taking and money laundering activities.

Mercantile Point is involved in various businesses, including trading, asset management, project and financial management, forwarding and consultancy services, while Sunshine Empire is a multi-level marketing company based in Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement yesterday, Bank Negara said it had carried out raids on Mercantile Point and its related companies on Tuesday, while raids on Sunshine Empire and its related companies were conducted yesterday.

"These raids were conducted in the premises of the companies around Kuala Lumpur following complaints received from members of the public," the central bank said, adding that relevant assets and documents of the companies were seized for the purpose of investigation.

These illegal activities are offences under subsection 25(1) Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 and subsection 4(1) of Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 respectively.

Bank Negara has called on members of the public not to place money or deposits with companies not licensed by it or to be involved in any get-rich-quick scheme to avoid losing their money.

If I remember correctly is a scam. The company tried to use MLM system to convince people to invest in the company, but truth is the company is nothing more than handling money in the air. Theres no concrete business etc... I wonder why would people really think money can make money without having a solid base.

that depends on the types of victims:

TYPE 1) those who joined this scam and didn't pester their frens to join them.

TYPE 2) those who joined this scam and promoting it to their frens to join. And when their fren don't want/discourage them, they become persuasive and don't listen to their fren's advice.

TYPE 3) same as type 2), with additional cocky behavior, like criticizing others (and their job/way of life) for not joining.

I shall care TYPE 1, but if given chance (not intentionally find them) to bumped across TYPE 2/3 victims, I shall lecture them and said "told you so!". For TYPE 3 victims, I shall laugh at them for their greediness.

I heard that SE was supported by Malaysian government. I read before a magazine which described how successful SE was world wide. Is it true? Is it really scam?
