Haven't noticed this as an issue in the forums. Is it a common problem? Could your internal HD be a bit too hot (in spite of the fan)?

QUOTE(MX510 @ Dec 19 2008, 08:52 PM) I got one file sex and the city avi xvid cd1 when play no sound lah no idea why suspect the codecs problem will post in dvico forum Yah, seems to be some kind of bug when you have an mp3 audiotrack on the avi file (as listed by the dvico itself) that won't sound. Or the sound will be out of sync. However, the file will play perfectly fine on my PC!Only solution for me was to recode the file (in my case to divx)... |

QUOTE(andyz @ Dec 22 2008, 08:13 PM) Placebo effect because spend so much on the 6500, must make my brain think its the best .. hehehe... Not placebo, the 6500 costs what my 4100 cost me, so with Moore's law, it really should be a great deal better... After all, the 8635 has more memory, is faster, better algorithms, blah-blah-blah - now I feel like upgrading! |

Alpha firmware is usually still buggy, meant for the testers and brave adventurers. Wait for a stable beta. Or better yet, the official release.
And shame on you rx330 for urging this reckless step!! (lol) Added on January 19, 2009, 6:28 pmI am still on fw 1.3.15 for my 4100sh. Is the 1.4.52 official fw any good? Supposedly it can read embedded subtitles in mkv files, and is faster and more stable. Any truth in that? This post has been edited by kkm: Jan 19 2009, 06:28 PM |

Well, I don't usually upgrade unless there is a compelling reason. You know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Sure, we can (and should) be discussing what software our boxes can play, otherwise where's the fun, and how do we know what the boxes can do.
But (I've been warned before) let's not talk about where the software is from, what we do with it, and where we keep it. QUOTE(ar188 @ Jan 19 2009, 11:52 PM) |

Actually, I downloaded and tested it just after it came out, but never got around to keeping the upgrade. Just iinstalled it again, see how now...

QUOTE(rthj @ Jan 28 2009, 12:53 PM) what password? the only password needed on 6500a is the unit's password for FTP function. and its on the manual on where to find this. I think you can also set passwords for folders so your *ahem* stuff is safe from the kids. Of course, doesn't prevent the occasional unexpected flash of boobs (like in the early part of Coming To America). Or the frequent coarse language that we try not to use around them. The kids, not the boobs!6500a is quite user friendly. firmware upgrade can be easily done also. just dont dont do the upgrade via the network, have to put the downloaded fw into the internal HDD or use a USB thumb drive. But no passwords in the default setup to stop you from enjoying the box... This post has been edited by kkm: Jan 28 2009, 01:10 PM |

Hey, friend, no need to shout!
If you can get the boxes cheaper, then just post so we can discuss it. Or you could post in Trade Zone if you have already firmed your prices. Please remember that we also need to look at delivery and warranty terms in addition to price. In other words, small discount for no (or complicated) warranty may not sell! Depends on your requirement.
Mine goes into a section of my TV/AV rack, so the square box is more suitable. If you want to put the tvix on top as pride of your setup, then the cylindrical tower looks much cooler... |

You're probably right, I haven't had any heat problems with my 4100 since day 1. I bought it together with a 500GB Hitachi, back when 500GB cost about RM450... (remember those days?)
QUOTE(rthj @ Feb 17 2009, 11:11 AM) 6500 has a fan from day one...isnt 4100 and 6500 has the same box design? and the 5100 and 700 has the cylindrical design? actually the fan's primary function is not to cool the HDD...because HDD is optional. and the heat problem in the beginning was caused by the absence of a HDD in some setup. the fan was first designed to cool the unti WITH the HDD inside. so it didnt work well without the HDD. |
