1. they drive on the right side of the road
2. hard to find parking in city
3. car missing parts / faulty scams which would charged into your cc
4. traffic tickets scams which would charged into your cc later

get a tourist van would be better, especially for first timer
not exactly don't have the cons but the chances are slimmer

if you're just travelling in the city, public transport would do fine

I been travel in Taiwan 3 times. Taiwan is very small only. The distance is from south to north is about 4 hours only. Train covers most part. You can drive. But I don't recommend driving. It is right side driving in Taiwan. Their road and traffic sign is could be quite confusing for us.

I recommend you download Klook travel app there's a lot of trip you can book in advance if you want to plan in advance.

There's a lot of private van drivers waiting outside of train station. Can hire the driver on the spot.

-first time with a group of friends. Travel around the by hiring a private van driver.
-2nd time is solo trip. Fly to Taipei. Just travel north side cities only by MRT and train.
-3rd trip also solo trip. Cover south part of Taiwan, fly to Kaohsiung. Travel by train only.

unless you travel to rural areas, else i recommend just hire a driver. typically finding parking is one of the major issue.

being to taipei and kaohsiung last month for ~2 weeks. the mrt and buses are so convenient that you do not need to drive there.

No Visa. Buy the MRT card at airport. Reload money in it. Can refund the balance.

In Taiwan they drive on the right.

In Malaysia we drive on the left.

and they have weird cross junction traffic rules compare to merehsia

My experience of riding bus, van or cars in Taiwan. They drive quite aggressively compared to Malaysian. I feel more safe riding train there.

This reminds me of my Japanese friend who never let my Korean friend to drive in the US. He always insisted me to drive
