i dont get it, whats the different between having a strong mesh network and FTTR? do they connect each of the child node wired from the main router?

FTTR - they lay fiber to the site.

lets say, from your main router in living room, lay invisible fibre over wall(?) all the way to end of far corridor, instead of drilling and hacking wall tonlay CAT cable. imagine your mesh nodes have backbone of fibre instead of wireless or CAT.

(well, of course need to convert the fibre signal back to RJ45 before can plug back to mesh node, but you get the diea...)

Laying fibre no need hacking ? I thought it’s same like laying network cable just that is much thinner la.

Yeah man, its  crazy price, probably 3-4yrs down the road with next 1G upgrade, then it would be time to consider
*
It is hard to see lower price for Wifi 6E or Wifi 7 with 6Ghz in the future because China allocates 6Ghz spectrum to 5G instead of Wifi. You go to Taobao now and try to look for a Wifi 6E router (and not client) and you will get crickets. Maybe that's why Huawei are dumping their FTTR solution here in Malaysia because that thing is unsellable in China without 6Ghz wifi.

This is like my ideal setup where each room have a AP for near perfect wireless connection. Only difference is backhaul is fiber instead of copper ethernet cable.

whats the benefit of having fiber as private home/residence backhaul as oppose to ethernet? i dont think the ethernet cable speed is anywhere near being maximized by gigabit connection? or its just small latency improvement that casual users wont even notice lol

Yes, they do. Basically it'll be better than wireless mesh and the same as wired mesh APs. Of course, fibre (FTTR) will be faster than copper (CTTR) except in the case of Mr Simmarjit who runs 10G over copper. CTTT if you put one in the toilet or CTTS to the storeroom. We also make up our own terms.

So far it is for future proof, the fiber plastic very dirty cheap, many diy their house will pull cat6 + fiber together, so if fiber module get dirty cheap, then can also do own solution next 10 years.

Yes, if today better wait la, no need go with it, just rmb, lay down fiber as well as cat6 together when you diy your house. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes, let's us see huawei next action, they released just wifi router based on qualcomm chipset, need wait next year huawei chipset hisilicon for wifi solution.
Or better, huawei might go with 星闪, new bluetooth + wifi, just like bluetooth classic + bluetooth le, they go with wifi + bluetooth le, with latest algorithm to solve the old error correction(for example, not just that) on wifi and bluetooth.

But huawei I think for compatible issues, they will go with wifi + 星闪, providing both, much better.
So if you speed test with wifi and 星闪, it showing the potential of 星闪

then it might be qualcomm chipset for wifi, hisilicon for 星闪 lol. devil.gif rclxms.gif
But if for low cost(and future proof), it will go with hisilicon SoC with wifi + 星闪 la.

Personally I dont think SWU would go away, the package might change but it will always be there for customer retention.

Knowing TIME, for their FTTR, they'll probably be employing methods like SGGA for fibre with NFAW and UADF procedures where applicable. Perhaps DAH2 which has superseded DAH.

SGGA - Super Glue Gun Applicator
NFAW - Naked Fibre Along Wall
UADF - Up Around Door Frame
DAH2 - Drill A Hole or 2
DAH - Drill A Hole

Just changed from the FiberHome to my existing router (TPLink AX20) and this is my speed now. Stable all the test.

Makes me wonder why didn't Unifi stick to TPLink ...

so that prove that Unifi routers are indeed crappy. doh.gif

Luckily I did my homework in here before the installer came. I told him not to install anything. After he settled everything, I did speedtest, done. I happy because everything goes smooth and my setup is untouched. He happy because he no need to do extra works and can leave early. And i just bought new router afterwards. Not sure what to do with those Unifi mesh routers though.  LOL.

Seeing you guys are having various issues with the given routers, why not just using back the old routers and see if the problems still exist? Frankly speaking, if the old router still working fine, then better don't replace it first. The unifi routers they gave are yours. You can keep them for future replacement. No need so rush to change it now.

Of course, if your old router cannot support the new upgraded speed, then you would have no choice but to change.
*
yes, when they come to install, I'll just tell them to set it up and I keep it as spare.
