99.999% chatter here is about SWU or speed upgrades.
There's next to no talk about new subscriber experiences?
I think I saw one post some 10-15 pages back...

My goal is to get 800mbps at below RM200 price if possible. So what I am talking about is 800mbps AFTER the upgrade by paying 500mbps price. Still possible?

Alternative solution.

If contract end, terminate the account. Sign up again as brand new customer. Yes. It's a bit hassle. But if you really want to save that money, that's the way.

inb4 port released

i remember reading clause, if you terminate, you can't sign up again for 6mth.
clause specifically to combat this kind of manipulation.

All these speed upgrades are just useless, it's all a sham that they came up with just so they could say that they "reduced price",
the speed upgrades are only good for local connections, the vast majority of the internet we access are overseas servers,
both TM and the other end of the connection throttle speed, and most of us don't need more than 100mbps for it anyways.
It's essentially the same product that you're still paying the same price for. "Price drop" fahmi's ass.
*
but.... everybody already expected the trick laaah, that TM won't outright reduce price of existing subscriptions.

you see even those 2Gbps, they rather give "a token of appreciation" than slash price.

if i have to guess, you probably need to remove IPTV connection profile altogether.
maybe each connection profile must have at least 1 port assigned, thus it refuses when you attempt to shift all ports to INTERNET which will cause no port left for IPTV.

If I move to a new place and it has no unifi coverage, I can request for termination without penalty rite?
*
QUOTE(BenYeeHua @ Oct 7 2023, 11:17 PM)
Yes, as long as you can proof it with electric bill, water bill etc
*
No.
Latest T&C is,
β€’ switch to Unifi Air, or
β€’ pay termination penalty (+administrative + months balance)

Yes since currently that's the only modem that TM is using. It can be put into bridge mode but will perform like just like any other 1Gbps modem due to its 1Gbps network ports. There're ways to utilize a 2nd port but it usually involves another layer of NAT. Works but not ideal.

Hopefully later there'll be a 2.5Gbps modem.

ic. ok.

then maybe for my case, it is better to keep it contract free.

rm129 - 500Mbps is not the best deal in town, but at least i only have contract until August 2024 and i am going to rent a unit to stay. best to refrain from committing longer contract. at least i have the flexibility..

*
relocation is non-renewal after all.

but since not sure availability in new home, aiming contract-free is indeed the wisest move even if not ideal pocket-wise under the threat of termination penalty.

Which is me, targeting RM 89 as lowest bare and out of contract, but need to pay for the price of router la. tongue.gif

Anyways, will be interesting how long the new 2-in-1 ONU modem last, can it last 5 years like other fiber modem or not. brows.gif

I have 3 units altogether whistling.gif

When upgrade from 1Gbps to 2Gbps, technician brought 3rd unit.
I'm only needing 1 unit to cover whole house since after MCO no longer need to cover larger square foot.

There is a solution for 1Gbps I guess?
Just plug in old fiber modem, will it works? hmm.gifΒ  devil.gif
*
I did tested with 1Gbps and 2Gbps subscription.
I plug in the old ZTE and RT-AX86U just like before ultraTested speed using built-in speedtest of ASUS.

But I only manage to get around 850Mbps+ download iirc.
The upload was 500Mbps+ (1Gbps) and around ~750Mbps (2Gbps).
That's why I am not so hung up when my ultra ONR can reach full 1Gbps and 2Gbps capacity; i believe i'm limited by the upstream exchange and congestion in my area.

what is this all-in-one ONU about? just for higher end plan like 1Gbps or 2Gbps rite?

for low end plan, they still give BTU only rite?
*
Yeah, the AIO ONR (ONU+router, all-in-one).
Sometime gonna misread that 'R' with ONU/ONT, I'm just gonna call it ultra ONR.

Our chief complaint is while it is capable of handling 2Gbps fiber speed, the RJ45 ports is handicap limit to 1Gbps each. So you can't squeeze a single TCP connection of more than 2Gbps through it.
You can't join 2 ports to make bigger virtual pipeline of 2Gbps sum because it does not support port aggregation protocol.

Some ktards will say "use SFP". But that is not home solution. If you yourself blur blur set up SFP today and die tomorrow, who's going to maintain your supreme home set up moving forward?

somemore they have more restriction like CGNAT etc...
time now the price is not attractive anymore, but at least symmetric speed (but some who can tap on this advantage for day to day use cases is good, but to majority of the ppl, this is again not so crucial, but during speed time test, it feel shiok laΒ  tongue.gif )
*
maxis is cooking a response, if you read maxis fibre thread.

even unifi is using CGNAT by default, for all plans less than 300Mbps.

With Maxis, at least I have option to pay RM10 to escape CGNAT penalty regardless my subscribed speed. People say unifi better in that sense as it defaults to dynamic public IP for all 300Mbps and above; but that is not sustainable in long run as IPv4 is limited and not everyone actually will notice the CGNAT penalty and will remain indifferent regardless. More so now more gets bumped to 300Mbps. Even 50Mbps gets bumped straight to 300Mbps wehhh.

Lucky most big company(except China lol, they provided, but all keep disabled) are enabled IPv6, so CGNAT not really seen until you trying to get steam p2p gaming(Yes, steam using p2p+server for that lol, server as stun is slow and buggy, while p2p directly is good) or torrent daily.
*
I disabled IPv6 in my network equipment.

I have long determined IPv6 is a major bottleneck that hampers "speedy" network. And sometimes cripples networking ("aha! it's you!!!!").
Since 200x, I disabled IPv6 everywhere, home and company.

If maxis is going to counter the offer by unifi, then likely that it will be tough game for them since they must only offer a lower price in order to really make it attractive to migrate to maxis for:
1) slower and poorer support Becos needs to go thru tm for issues.
2) extra rm10 to get ipv4 public ip comparing to the same price plan as unifi
*
so far i had no issue on Maxis. except the one time LOS after extended removal of equipment during renovation.

unifi isn't giving IPv4 for free.
that "RM10" is costed in 300Mbps+ plans.
someone gotta pay it someway and somehow.
IANA allocation is not free after all.

why some get mesh, some get a single router .. so confusing

all the routers now are mesh-capable.
does not mean you get 2 units to create a mesh.

check the entitlement that you signed for.

Anyone successfully apply swu3.0 in Kluang area? G to TMpoint here n they need transfer id for further application..

because SWU intended for those who wanna terminate/transfer, not for casual window shopping then suddenly wants it.
