Actually for your case, buying iPhone 14 Plus/iPhone 14 Pro Max/iPhone 13 Pro Max maybe better since they have lightning port with your AirPods.Should have waited a lot longer when they update it to USB-C connector.

Downside is that iPhone 14 Plus could have poor resale value like iPhone 4S after launch of iPhone 5 with Lightning port.
If you do decide to buy, I suggest going for iPhone 14 Plus for the lighter weight that is more similar to your iPhone 7 Plus. Imo iPhone 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max too heavy π
