I watched the video by vex you linked. as many bad youtubers do, that video is unfortunately and disappointingly sensationalised (and cherry picked!)...clickbait title as he tricks viewers into thinking that reviewers were saying the 70 super "is THAT bad". first time watching his vid, edy disappointed.
for example, HUB praised 4070 super, adding in their opinion that 4070 should've had the same performance instead of needing a mid cycle refresh derbauer praised 4070 super, while adding that he thought 4070 non-super was too expensive for its performance during release what most of these reviewers did were praising 4070 super, nonetheless criticised 4070 non-super such that it should've had said performance at launch. vex omitted the praising part!
secondly, do refrain from using userbenchmark to compare CPUs. they have accuracy and integrity issues; a lot of sites have since banned userbenchmark or the use of userbenchmark as a metric. they're also heavily anti-AMD for some psychological reasons.
thirdly, if you're looking into upgrading to AM5 platform, perhaps wait a slight while as Zen 5 is soon to be revealed coming this year. with that said, 5600X should last for another while if you're only using your PC for gaming.
finally, if you're looking into reducing bottleneck, you shall always strive to reduce CPU bottleneck, this means faster CPU that doesn't block your GPU, and any of your future GPU. CPUs such as 7800X3D does this job extremely well. a cheaper alternative is 7700X.
Don't really want to pay that much. How much fps gain is that over the other 2 options i listed?

nah don't want to upgrade motherboard as well. I'm already balls deep already having spent alot at best only cpu so only options afaik are either the 5700X3D or the 7600 (for AM4 platform). The former is newer and both priced almost similar.
Between the 2 which is the better deal? or is there a different recommendation beside these 2
the goal here is get a cpu that fits well with the RX 7800 XT without bottleneck. so i can game on a 180hz 1440p rapid ips adaptive sync monitor at ultra settings (am willing to ommit ray tracing and DLSS). went with AMD since better pricing, has 16gb vram, seems to be the budget minded choice for 1440p gaming according to the youtubers.

Since your CPU bottlenecking its the only thing left to upgrade. And since your ady balls deep, not much choice left than going 5700x3d or 5800x3d as going AM5 means spending more for cpu+mobo+DDR5 rams.
Imho 7000series still too raw for AM5 jump, just look at how low the IF set and with 8000series potentially running at DDR5 8400, either just go for 5700x3d or 5800x3d upgrade now and wait for AM5 8000 or 9000 series (or Intel Arrowlake) before you jump.
PS AFAIK There is no 7000series upgrade path for AM4

oh thats an am5 ? then nm then. i dont want to change motherboard as well ill try make do.

Sapphire Nitro+ RX 7800 XT arrived and installed. testing right now
i haven't been in team red for a long while. so these videos help

i tested this setup and it's good at maxing out for 1440p gaming using this monitor.
so for me no upgrade cpu i'm ok with this.
apex legends optimized settings
after configuring based on the video above, in apex i just set everything ultra for 1440p, it was high fps so i left it there
only thing i did different is enable 10bit since my monitor is 8+frc = 10bit. i also enabled the anti lag feature since i saw gpu maxing out (but even with it enabled, still seems to be hitting 94% gpu utilization). so yes it does seem to be cpu bottleneck. but with my settings it's still high fps regardless (it ranges between lowest 140-240+ with an average of 180+ fps)
doesn't seem apex legend supports fsr. but i didn't bother to enable SSR either, seeing as my fps is high enough so not needed.
*update
spotted weird issue in apex legend. The eggs on the cave walls flashing white lights why?
for myself i found out when i disabled the AMD fluid motion feature, the problem went away
nm spoke too soon. during the loading screen, some characters show odd white lighting. the disabling the fluid motion earlier did fix some of the issues, but some others remain apparently. trying to guess what setting might be causing it.
from what i read, just seems like they are still working on a stable driver release for the rx 7800 xt
*disabled the anti lag feature. still am able to retain 180 fps (175 since i manually capped it)
i took a screenshot. see that, it isn't normal i didn't have this on nvidia. not complaining, just stating a fact. anyone know what setting might be possibly causing this?

Oh wow so soon 1st day ady you encountered Radeon driver glitch
What I heard will take few driver release to fix problems like the missing sun in Starfield, just for something to go wrong in another game. LOL

yeah. but trying to remain positive
turning off the fluid solved one issue at least (this solved a white lighting flicker that appeared on some content ingame e.g. some plants and spider egg cocoons). that one for sure some games may be ok, some might not. it certainly didn't work well for apex legends.
but some issues still remain like this white static glow. i haven't yet figured out what setting does this. i also checked amd forum as well.
can guarantee the issue isn't with my new monitor, since it worked fine using the nvidia without this issue. so it's definitely the new amd graphics card. i did do a clean install using DDU. And i also updated to latest chipset drivers and windows 11. also using latest radeon drivers adrenaline
other than that, i felt the amd software UI looked great. just sad i encountered a bug like you said
so far this static white appears during legend selection or the part loading scene when showing ally banners. ingame i didn't see this yet, will keep monitoring for now.
Go Team Green no need deal with driver BS just install, update driver and play. LOL
Well since you got that GPU no choice but to stay positive.
i have to try Directx 12 titles and see if this issue occurs there as well, or whether it's just an apex legends specific issue
for this gpu by sapphire, using their trix software can change the RGB lighting. works without issues. This nitro+ sapphire model also has dual bios which is nice. But i did not see any bios updates for this card, so...
It's well built and the cooling i see is good. It's at 42c
My old card was at 80-85c, so huge improvement.
but really... having come from team green, the amd radeon ui settings is miles better than Nvidia (to be fair, i did not try the LATEST nvidia BETA which supposedly removed the registration requirement. Not sure what else they changed). Then again you could argue, it doesn't matter what the UI looks like, all that matters is the graphics, fps, performance and the end result and all that more important stuff. In that sense, Nvidia still trashes AMD over the head when it comes to DLSS and ray tracing. Then what about encoders? Now the AMD gpu i got has both AV1 and HEVC, so can easily do OBS streaming while gaming, so AMD seems to have resolved this shortcoming.
But other than that, i like what i'm seeing from the AMD side
Some interesting features amd has for fps is the
- fluid motions - anti lag (nvidia has this too) - FSR 3 (haven't tried this yet)
not and AMD or Nvidia fan boy. I go where the grass is greener at the time. From i see for the price point, RX 7800 XT for 1440p is great. A second option is the RX 6800 XT second hand for a killer price only. Personally i would recommend going for the newer graphic card which is the 7800 XT.
for nvidia, last i checked the prices are more expensive than the AMD, less VRAM. But it does have the benefits of Nvidia tech winning over AMD in certain things.
But i knew that and not planning to enable ray tracing if it impacts fps a lot. rasterization should be sufficient for me.
Quite curious how FSR3 performs. I checked Apex Legends but they don't support
i thought this was a kewl feature. "AMD announces Radeon FSR upscaling for video playback in YouTube and VLC". aka super resolution
so to my understanding, since my anime collection is 1080p, but i am now on 1440p, i'm in a bit of a pickle to to less sharp videos now. But with this super resolution FSR, it can now be applied to a video player. They mentioned VLC, but i use MPC, so i assume it would work for that as well.
ok so i followed the mpc + fsr method. this seemed the easiest to apply. i confirmed it worked. will be using this over madvr now
so basically i can watch 720p or 1080p content on a 1440p resolution monitor and it being less crappier had i not done this tweak. This was one of the concerns when moving from 1080p to 1440p, the 1080p content might be less sharp
*more testing
mpc fsr did work, but albeit buggy. For example, if i just play the video it will work when in full screen. For verification, press alt+r to pop up the radeon UI, then it will state that it's upscaling 720p to 1440p. Visually i can also see the difference.
The problem for me though is, when i want to change subtitle and audio track, it bugs out
so i went with the MPV method. I followed the instructions, also installed via the chocolatey method (since updating will be easier).
i also edited the below as well. this is for auto full screen
CODE
fs=yes
The other thing i did, was, go to AMD UI, go to gaming. Add the MPV as a game (ridiculous i know, but there is no add application. only add games, so go with it ). Once done i can modify the graphics setting for the mpv app. I enabled Super resolution.
Then to test i open an anime video file which is 1080p and started watching.
to verify it working press shift + i, then press 2. You should see FSR in the texts like this
*note: for FSR to be active, must full screen. You can try un full screen and check to confirm it turned off. Just in case you are wondering
Having tested, i must say, i much prefer the mpv it's more stable, and works flawlessly.
So going from 1080p to 1440p totally destroy my anime viewing pleasure by enabling FSR and using MPV with the FSR shader config file from github installed
One other option is AI upscaling in MPV
No idea if you can combine AI + FSR or not. any ideas
#### No option will be saved to watch later files except the starting position. --watch-later-options-clr
using FSR + CAS
i hashed out the FSR which was great, to test the anime4k GANX2 to see how that did.
for 720p upscale, the FSR seemed to do better. Will be sticking to the FSR which works great for me
Now that i think about it, the reason i was holding of from going 4k monitor, is because i didn't want to store 4k videos. But with something like anime4k that can realtime...... imagine how much space savings you can achieve while still watching in 4k.... that is mind boogling. Sure it's not necessarily perfect, but it would suffice

Well going AMD (either Ryzen or Radeon) means knowing how to tune the settings to get the best out of them. Glad to see you can tackle their issues.
That 6core 5600X is still usable for now but sooner games will be reco 8cores and more so do reconsider upgrading CPU to 5700x3d or 5800x3d just before AMD decides to EOL AM4. This can last you another 1-2 AM5 cycles before you jump over.
A suggestion: perhaps you might wanna open a new tered to document your 7800xt experiences & methods to solve issues, since this one kinda belongs to another? Just my 2sen

fair enough, but i'm done by now haha
jus wanted to share my experience with new gpu with monitor using this old am4 cpu, if they are wondering if it's worth it or not, and how to use it for gaming or mediaplayback for anime. all questions answered more or less answered at this point

Me im interested to do DLSS upscaling for VLC. You can imagine how bad since I archive my shows in 480P RMVB which I only recently switch to H265. 480P still can accept when I was then limited to a laptop 15" FHD but now I upsize to 24" 1080P monitor all the blocky details looks bigger.
And in future I might go for 32" 1440P, so highly compressed videos will not cut it anymore on bigger screens.

i heard about that. AMD officially supporting FSR for VLC.
even if you want to save on space, wouldn't 720p be better? personally i do 1080p good enough for me. Works even better when using the mpv + anime4k glsl shader combo.
Not sure about 32'' so no comment on that. But moving up from 24'' 1080p to 27'' 1440p, i am content with it for desktop gaming pc. But to make anime mediaplayback good, i used mpv + anime4k, definitely worth it.
anyway i digress. feel free to create new topic if you want and ping me if you need further on this i'm still tweaking but i more or less got it setup sufficiently good for gaming and mediaplayback.

I'll tale 32" or 34" 1080p gaming monitor if available, bigger screen can see clearly and nicer with game setting set larger field of view. Watch prawn also nicer. 1080p gaming, the GPU last longer before getting obsolete
With cost of electricity up, I better get Nvidia GPU
