Hi, wanna find out, what type of drain connection is better for kitchen sink (stainless steel).
Is it ok to put a bottle trap for kitchen sink? As it might help to block the odour from the drain piping. But a bit worry that the food waste might clog it very fast and will require regular opening and cleaning then it will be troublesome.
Or shall I just put a direct pipe connection? If direct connection, shall I use fixed PVC pipe or those flexible hose?
Thanks in advance

Did some search and found that these are some common ways of doing it. Personally I prefer direct connection, but the contractor informed that there might be some risk of odour coming in since the kitchen waste pipe is connected to the same manhole chamber where the toilet waste is coming also. May I know if anyone got issues with odour at the kitchen sink?
bottle trap direct connection
P trap Thanks

QUOTE(amduser @ Sep 14 2023, 11:05 AM) bottle trap is the best as it trap debris and also block odor from the drain pipe if your sink get clog up, then you can open the bottle trap and clear the stuffs inside, and also you should not throw food waste to the drain pipe, that's not how the pipe designed to work while small amount of small food debris in the size of mince garlic/onion and rice grain will not clog the drain unless you dump a bowl of it I havent clear my sink bottle trap and toilet basin bottle trap for many years and the water still drain fast and no sign of clog ok thanks for the reply. the contractor also suggested to put bottle trap. but my current sink is direct pipe which so far i don't have problem with any odour. so was a bit worry about putting bottle trap since from my experience with my toilet basin bottle trap, some will have minor leaking after some time and can see the black colour mold around it

QUOTE(ceo684 @ Sep 14 2023, 11:46 AM) in old landed the kitchen sink direct pipe to back lane longkang so no issue.. in high rise or new landed best to hv bottle trap because it drains to the drain pipe. this one if you want easy to service (clean) one get the bottom trap from Ikea. thanks. ya maybe my current one is direct to longkang so no issue with the odour. yes new house the contractor said must go to the manhole so it will be sharing with the toilets wastewater. so ya i guess need to live with the bottle trap and hopefully the contractor will install it properly to avoid leaking problem. btw the contractor also said that once a while it's ok to pour the boiling water down the drain to clear it. but i'm a bit curious if this will damage the plastic pipe? is anyone practicing this? thanks
