One more thing I like about the FZ18 is that it weighs in at 400gms (with battery).
The S5IS is 550gm. Some nice macros. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat...essage=25316156 |

QUOTE(gilbert @ Oct 23 2007, 05:45 PM) what I dislike FZ18 is the flexible LCD does not serve any purpose... they only allow you to lift out the LCD screen but doesn't allow you to have variation of angle.... if only the LCD like Canon S5... I would go for Panasonic FZ18. FZ18 was launched after S5IS. On the other hand, one more consideration b4 you buy Panasonic FZ18... as this is last year model... Panasonic may come up with new model to replace FZ18.... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_po...mcfz18&show=all The best thing about Canon S5IS is the flip-out & twist LCD But a salesman told me if you're not careful you can twist it beyond its limits and the LCD is gone. Some people may like the external flash option on the S5 but for me this will only increase its weight and bulk. Honestly speaking, if you really want to buy external flashes, wide angle converter, tele converter, .... you're better off buying a Canon DSLR. |

QUOTE(knuu @ Nov 5 2007, 09:36 AM) Just got my Z18 and I'd say its pretty impressive. Anyway here's the reason I chose z18 Wow that is a great deal. I paid RM1499 and only got 1pc 2GB card. Screen protector also need to pay.1) Stronger zoom w/o compensating quality 2) Awesome lens 3) Wide Angle 4) EVF is better - S5IS's EVF looks crappy & unrealistic (EVF = Electroniv Viewfinder) 3) Li Ion Batteries - AA batteries for S5IS means they have way less powerful flash and limited technoogy (That's y S5IS has the flash slot) 4) Light weight - U will really notice this when u have a long shooting session and also when u're at maximum zoom u're more relaxed. 5) Strong Flash 6) Much Cheaper Bought mine with a surprisingly insane deal from Harney Norman @ Ikano RM 1450 Z18 2 X 2GB Tripod Casing Screen Protector +RM150 and u get a 5 year extended warranty Welcome to the world of Lumix FZ18. FZ18 is the best of the 'really big' zoom cameras.
