- Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji were perfectly casted, I really loved how accurate the portrayal of the characters were, whilst allowing the actors to bring their own spin on the character. Luffy way less silly, Zoro is serious but still have moments of hilarity, Nami is being Nami, while Sanji is just charming and way less of a pervert here. Usopp is just being usopp
- There will be comparisons to the original however I felt for their first season, the writing was solid. Way less draggy compared to the original. In fact, some arcs like Syrup Village, it can be argued the netflix series did better than the manga/anime, opting for more horror/slasher thriller vibes
- Garp being the secondary antagonist works brilliantly as a plot device to luffy/koby's character development, although not entirely accurate to the source material (garp's first meeting with luffy is actually in water 7 arc)
- Villains here are well written and fleshed out too, so that it ties well into the central theme of the straw hat crew's development. Kuro and Arlong had their own motivations and not just being purely evil
- Aside from minor miscasts (i.e. Nojiko cough cough), I think everyone did a really good job playing their roles here
This series serves as a good entry point for people who are not fans of one piece or never read the manga/watched the anime, whilst long time fans will have a blast watching this really well done take on their beloved manga. I went in with very low expectations and came out pleasantly surprised. My review 4/5, and I hope this gets a second season
