Last time, whenever I play first person shooter (FPS) games on PC or old consoles eg. saturn, playstation, etc., I always feel dizzy and nausea.

Knowing most popular games on PS3 and XBOX360 are FPS kind, would I still be dizzy? Or is the graphics/motion better now, I won't have to worry? Anyone who has my dizzy problem before and gotten new consoles?

ahhh, this problem.

there is a way to overcome this.
its like practice your brain. play FPS games
daily and when it starts to get a bit dizzy stop
for 5 minutes and stare away from the screen.
go focus on green grass or something else.
alot of people force themselves playing FPS
will lessen and eventually will not get
headaches anymore thumbup.gif

first, you must understand what causes the headache.
it is caused by the brain. when you're playing FPS games
your eyes telling that you are moving. while your other
sense telling that you are in a static position. so the brain
is confused which cause the headache. practicing will overcome
this problem. or you could just disable the "weapon bobbing"
to lessen the effect.

a fine example i can take is by big bro.
he suffer headaches when playing FPS games.
because of Gears of War, he force himself to play
and adopt until the headache is gone smile.gif

usually it's because of the natural, realistic view of FPSes. especially over the years, when motion in games have become more realistic.

just have to get used to it gradually, ie turning off weapon bob and all that jazz, and slowly increasing it.

those who have been playing FPSes for a very long time will not feel anything, but those new to FPSes are prone to motion sickness. some, at least.

Hmmm.... looking at some top rated games from gamespot, looks like xbox has more FPS or shooter games than ps3.

xbox : http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?type=to...all&sortdir=asc

ps3 : http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?type=to...all&sortdir=asc

TS, i'm a person who don't play FPS mainly due to past episodes of motion sickness. however, on the 360 and ps3, they do offer playable game demos - e.g condemned, FEAR, darkness, bioshock, jericho, etc. i did try those short demos and feel fine for most of them. i tried playing xbox halo2 but started feel dizzy around the 2nd hour. xbox half-life 2 was fine though - i clocked 3 hours non-stop before.

i think motion sickness sometime occur due to the FOV (field of vision) and the smoothness of the game while in motion. so if u get ps360, u can try out those demos to see the effect on you.

hmm... any businesses out there for playing PS3/360 games on hourly charge or free demos? Maybe can try.

I think Singapore has such places with free demos .... saw before but no time to try at TRU, department stores and electronic stores.

If u've have experienced this type of symptom while playing FPS, chances are that u are allergic to the Xbox360. So, its better to buy the PS3. whistling.gif

Yes, i've experienced it before. My worst moment is when playing Quake on the Sega Saturn. Felt very dizzy. One more game is Killzone for the PS2. Also made me feel dizzy. Currently i don't have any FPS on the PS3.

It's not going to change just because you play the same type of game on another console.

Prepare to be dizzy during FPS games.

LOL, it doent really matter if its FPS or TPS. its the screen or weapon
bobbing is causing the headache problem. some people just cant cope
with it. just disable it and play it slowly. know your limits and rest.
in a month or so depends.. eventually it'll wear off. i know. alot of
people tried this and it worked. same for my bro and friends.
its called motion sickness.

LOL, i've been discussing about this topic at Gamers Hideout since
last year laugh.gif thats just maybe explained why i know alot about this laugh.gif

We would rather say FPS is abit giddy at first but great games like halo 3 will drag you or force you to play...to great to be missed...Well practice makes perfect...There's an option you can select in the game mode, there is something can be done to overcome this.

usually playing fps is a headache becuz our eyesight n brain cannot cope with the graphics. However, i find that when you have a good display, good graphics, and good fps for the FPS game, you'll have lesser symptoms of headache and etc

im saying quite truthfully, i dont like halo series at all.
halo 3 is not much of a difference. i like halo 2 better.
sorry fanboys. its the truth. but the multiplayer is awesome.
the graphics is oookaayyla~ the only thing halo 3 makes
me sad, it doesnt really improve much for the model's polygon.
so it is not as detailed as next-gen gaming game should look like.
but they does improve on the in-game physics, which is very
unnoticeable until something weird happened just because
of the new physics. which is quite cool wink.gif

sweat.gif i dont much agree its the graphics fault.

old games = less weapon / screen bobbing effect = less headache
new games = implement weapon / screen bobbing to make it realistic = massive laugh.gif headache.

dont believe me? try take your friend " who might got this problem "
and let him play Counter Strike 1.6 with default settings ( weapon bobbing on )
then compare with another playing with weapon bobbing OFF.

Wow nice discussion.
Want to add in something here
I'm one of the patient suffering "motion-sickness" too

If Halo is a FPS
then is Time Crisis also FPS?

Hmm or i should say motion sickness does not occurs for Arcade game?

For the solution, according to U.S. Army Research Institute
for the Behavioral and Social Sciences
--forgot the link--
Research Report 1832

1.Avoid fatigue or sleep loss, hangover, upset stomach, head colds, ear infections, ear blockages, upper respiratory illness, medications, and alcohol.
2.Use breaks, time-outs extensively
3.Minimize head movement, particularly when new or dynamic maneuvers are being trained.

Motion-sickness almost all of them are only applied to FPS.
but anything that moves quickly or violently ( on screen )doesnt matter
if its a movie or a game will cause the same effect.
Time Crisis? umm yeah it is considered a FPS, i think unsure.gif

okay, motion sickness is only applied for "some" people. it varies.
its about the brain that doesnt suit itself to play game which
is virtual. less hardcore gamers might caught this motion-sickness.
the headache is trying to understand why "you are playing in a
virtual environment right?" your eyes is telling that you are moving.
but your other sense, ears for example does not. ears are important
for balance. your eyes and ears cooperate with each other to keep
you balanced.

some people who suffers this might get a headache when they
trying to read texts outside the car ( as its moving ) while
the vehicle is moving. rclxub.gif dono how to put it into propper words

Just need to get used to the sensitivity of the analogue stick. It can work wonders if you know how to tilt it correctly.

Its better to play FPS game with mouse and keyboard, seldom buy FPS for console one.

I remember feeling nausea when playing Half life 2 but CS totally can play for hours and yet both are FPS,yeah im outdated.
