drop to ly today,a source from czone said next week sapphire 3870 coming with tag price around rm 1100.00

will the 3870 pawn 88gt ?
if it doesn't, then 88gt will still be the gamers choice at that price ...1.1k doesn't seem cheap to me ...

QUOTE
The HD 3850 will exist primarily as a 256MB part, while the 3870 will bring 512MB to the table. Some 3850 parts may come with 512MB and some 3870 parts with 1GB of memory -for 20 and 50 USD/EUR above current asking price.

Pricing for both launch parts is very aggressive, and AMD claims it is all due to 55nm process working like a clockwork and achieving excellent yields. Radeon HD 3850 should retail for between $149 to 179 (USD), while 3870 should be between 200 to 230. This is brilliant pricing, going way below 8800GT.

so, that turns out to be around RM525-626 for the HD3850 and RM700-805 for the HD3870 ? tongue.gif blink.gif drool.gif
any clue how these two fair with 8800gt?

are you sure 29xt -> 88gt is considered an upgrade at all?
*
yeah, that might not be a 'noticable' upgrade lah .. but the power consumption decrease should be noticeable ..

QUOTE(scph50004 @ Dec 26 2007, 12:05 AM)
btw wanna ask something about the HD3850's temp again. I changed the fan speed from 60% to auto in riva tuner, but it seems that the fan speed never changed even though the temperature reached a certain value(ie I set 60% for 70 celcius, but the fan still not spinning at 60%) . What did I do wrong?
*
what's ur current temp at load/idle?
sounds like the 'bug' problem happening on 3850 reference coolers .. (someone posted about it before)
from guru3d :
http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/472/8/
QUOTE
We discovered what we think is a bug in the RV3850 samples. We where curious about the high (90c) temperatures these cards produce (very likely a reference issue thus all boards have this high temperature). When we applied another cooler on the cards, the temperatures went down instantly which made me investigate.

I'll make a long story short, when heat builds up in the GPU the fan RPM should throttle up depending the temperature (fan speed throttling), this does not work on the reference coolers at all. Now either AMD disabled the feature to preserve noise levels, or this is a bug in the BIOS. We can force the throttling manually with our own Rivatuner, forcing it at 60% (still very silent) will keep the temp below 65 degrees C.

how to fix this eh? i dunno if my sapphire 3850 also have this prob later cool2.gif
just manually fix the fan to 60-70% will do?
